Question Pulley Question

Purchased a KJR Pulley from the board member.
Took it to my mechanic and he told me that it has a 1mil. deep groove from being previously installed.

He told me that it will leak oil from the engine and advised me not to install it.

Anybody had problems with these?

Thank you.

Hmm, looks like the CNR pulley isn't the only one with this problem... See this thread:
https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-drivetrain/191612-problem-with-cnr-pulley.html

Get a UR pulley. They have a steel sleeve that prevents the seal from wearing grooves in the aluminum.

thats what the mechanic told me.

The guy that sold me the pulley never mentioned any problems with the pulley.

I hate dealing with this now.

It may leak, it may not (right away, but prob will eventually). One of the CNR pulley guys in that thread had major leakage, I have only a very minor drip and the guy that posted pics of his pulley with the grooves in it had no leakage yet. Bottom line is: don't risk it; go UR or stay stock.

Give him a chance to do the right thing before you smear his name all over the place. You would want someone to give you the same oppurtunity. My 2 cents.

This problem of the seals wearing grooves in balancers isn't new. It was so
common in small block chevies, Fel-pro sold a steel repair sleeve that you would
coat with locktite and tap on with a rubber mallet. ALSO! The chevy
balancer was cast Iron. I have a KJR that I will have a steel sleeve installed
on before I install It. I miked the diameter, it is 48 millimeters. Has anyone
measured the size if the factory VQ pulley? If the factory size is say 50mm
and the aftermarket size is smaller that may be the cause of the pulley leaks.

Okay..sorry. It seemed as I was ready the responses, that the crowd was getting ugly and a lynch party was forming. Good thinking.

I bought it at the local auto parts store.(for my chevy) Take yours to a major
auto parts store like Napa. The sleeve was razor blade thin but FEL-Pro provided a new seal.
I think everybody is slapping on these pullies and not replacing the seal which you may be able
to get away with if the aftermarket pully is close to the same size or larger.
