But I do agree, anything under 600whp should be fine with 100 octane, there shouldn't be any knock being recorded with 100. No need to go any higher into the leaded gases.

because the ignition timing was tuned for high octane gas. But beyond the 93 pump taht the ECU was meant for, there's nothing to be gained.
OCTANE DOES NOT MAKE HORSEPOWER, IT HAS TO BE TUNED FOR HIGHER OCTANE TO MAKE THE HIGHER HORSEPOWER!

I asked Sharif about high octane on N/A w/ Utec in this thread, and he said they had tried it and didn't get any significant gain.
The major advantage to high octane is to prevent detonation. So, you could advance timing without knock. However, it seems that the VQ stops responding to added timing before it starts to knock. So, there wouldn't be a big difference.

Do you know what modifications the car had? and what does significant gains mean?

I am living proof that 100 octane helped in my Z. You can either believe or not, but it does. Especially in hot weather where these engines do "knock", and if you have race gas it wont knock therefore you have more power.

I agree with Backtuner 100%. We have tested this theory countless times on the dyno. Simply adding race fuel to an already well tuned NA or FI car will yield no whp/trq improvment.

^^ This is not aimed only at you....Dont you people read? We have been discussing the potential of higher octane WITH a tune. And this thread is going on and on w/no point to some post, only a few guys inn this thread have actually tried it, some say theyve seen power and some said no power.
So please if you are just talking out your *** move on.
