Race Gas, NA?
Hey,
I'm going to the track in a couple weeks and my performance mods are:
Intake, Exhaust, MRev2, (may get a tune and utec)-will running race gas that day 100+ octane do me any good? Or will this mainly increase the power if you are FI only? (but only with a specific tune for it right?)

I had a buddy of mine in a Mustang GT with several NA mods use 100+ and he told me that there was no noticible difference. His time slips did not show anything either. However, that is just one opinion.
won't do any good because you have no way to specifically tune for the higher octane.... i.e. bump up ignition timing for the added octane.
it's usually more useful to FI people, as you're correctly thinking.

I saw dyno sheets one with 93 and one with race gas, there was no difference! I was there while we test and tunes it for 2 hours now it did make a difference while he was spraying but not enough to buy it again like 2 hp on NOS. it was an s2k we were tuneing
you can use a utec. but NA + Race gas + utec or any other ems wont really help you get the power out of race gas. FI is when race gas is best. but I could be wrong. I have yet to see this 245hp 93gas na, 285 hp 100+ gass tuned. <- not going to happen.

I just started a thread on this last week....
and i dont get some of you guys, u cant compare apples and oranges. And then theres the guys with opinions and no real facts to back it up. Opinions based on nothing are worthless. Dont mean to be rude, but come on guys.
Actually if your car's a/f is high on 91 octane, race gas will help. But not in a large amount. I used to run it when I had the MREV and it made some power, I would guess around 10whp all throughout the powerband.

Can you tell me more of that setup? Mods, octane, ect.?

When you add race gas to that mix, it will advance your timing because 100 octane had no knock. You will get much better results with a tune though.

ahwile back I read an article on the 350Z and they did a dyno comparison with pump vs. race fuel on a stock car...I remembere there being a gain in the range of 10 HP.
I think it's very possible for our NA 350z's to make this power depending on the conditions especially when at the track (road course)...if it's hot outside, the engine will be more likely to pull some timing due to it's knock sensor - higher octane gas could reduce/eliminate any knock. So, race gas wouldn't make any more HP, but it could prevent the ECU from pulling timing that leads to a decrease in HP.
