Aftermarket?
What is the aftermarket like for the Nissan crowd? I know for Must, I mean Rustangs it is very large, how is it for Nissans of the past.... how do you all envision it for the 350Z and Nissan sports cars of the future? Do many of you have mod's planned for your 350Zs? If so, what type of mods? Interior/Exterior asthetics or maybe engine performance or handling? I would like to hear what you guys are planning so I can prepare for you all on the road
just kiddin, I am real curious cause this car seems pretty cool even to an import hater like myself.
thanks

I had an 87 Stang that I bought almost new. That was right at the time that FI was fairly new for the Mustang and parts were scarce. There were alot of vendors selling basically junk. Things like switches that you wired to the coolant temp sensor that made the computer think that the car was still warming up so the ECU added fuel and claimed they claimed a HP gain. Alot of this seems go on in the early days of any new car. I remember alot of HP claims from alot of vendors about power gains that never came to be. Eventually I gave up on $800 GT40 mainfolds and $300 short headers since the 5.0 was a basically a 302 and I yanked the FI and went with carbs. While I would never put a Weiand Hi-Ram on my Z (I know it wouldn't work) I did learn that there is a rush for the first parts out and they may or may not be the best. So far I have only done an AEM intake. I doubt it gets any more power but, the sound is great. I will probably set back and watch the what happens with the aftermarket. I would love to do an exhaust but, it's too soon to say who is best. The flowmaster 80 series is a cheap thrill so, I will probably add that untill the exhaust makers duke it out.
BTW the Stang ended up as a Pro Street driver

Anyone who is honest about it will say that the domestic V8 aftermarket is far superior to the import market. The only exception MIGHT be Honda, but I doubt it. Like you said in your post, the more the market offers, the more crap you have to wade through.
The Nissan aftermarket for the prior Z wasn't hugh mostly due to the relativly low numbers of cars, but for the most part, the stuff that was out there was good, but expensive.
The good news about the new Z is that the productions numbers are going to be much higher, and the aftermarket seems to be responding. There are already quite a few mfrs making parts although the variety isn't there yet. But for a car that has only been out for 6 months, its got a pretty good start.
I wouldn't buy a Z now expecting tons of aftermarket support, but in a year or two, I would predict that the aftermarket will be sizable. Nothing like the domestic V8 market, but enough to lighten most peoples wallets.
Its nice to see that even a self proclaimed import hater has been distracted by the Z. It seems to have a real broad appeal.
So when I meet you out there in your domestic, you might get me off the line, but I'll catch up on the twisties
. Unless of course the turbos kits are out, then well have to talk $$ before we run.

Alang,
Cool attitude, I like that... I agree teh215, there will need to be a few guinea pigs before anything really takes off... Never take the manufacturers word when dealing with hp or torque gains, they always advertise the most possible power increase made... Like saying a K$N will make 10-20 HP... BS, it might add that much to an already heavily modded, supercharged V8 but alone it may add 2-5HP at best, to me that is a kind of false advertising, or at least mis leading...
I dont hate all imports, I think you all know which imports are generally hated by domestic owners. There is nothing wrong wtih the WRX, 350Z (or any past Z for that matter, they are sweet), Supra, Skyline and a plethora of others, some I like more than my Bullitt. But damn those Honda/Acura guys, I have yet to meet a winged wonder that did not want to race or sound off their little fart canon
It has been a mixed experience joining this forum as a non-Z owner trying to shoot the **** with other enthusiasts... we will see...
