Thumbs up Tweaked My Ecu -- Wow!!

Well, I am lucky. An acquaintance of mine has the "Consult" device which is the device used to program the ECU. He plugged it in and made the adjustments.

Here is a print out:

Corrected IGN TIM: 5 degrees
ENG SPEED: 838 RPM
Corrected IDL RPM: 175 RPM
COOLAN TEMP/S: 192 Degrees farenheit
CLSD THL POS: ON
IGN TIMING: 17BTDC

I currently have Stillen Exhaust, Injen CAI and grounding kit. These mods combined with the tweaked ecu result in better low end due to the more lean air/fuel mixture and a lot better top end due to the advanced timing. I don't recommend people at sea level modifying the air/fuel mixture as I believe that the ECU is already tuned for sea level. I did this because I am at 6,000 FT elevation and wanted my car to run a little more lean.

On a side note, my gas mileage did go down by about 3 mpg, but I am okay with trading better performance for a little less gas mileage.

I am not into dyno'ing my car as much as I am interested in getting good track times. I have a date with the 1/4 mile track on 3/30. The general rule of thumb is add .15 seconds for every 1,000 feet elevation to your quarter mile times from the base sea level times. I am shooting for 14.4 - 14.6 at this elevation.

Oh4az,

So you advanced 5 degrees? Was your ign timing at 12 degrees prior?

fdao, unfortunately, my friend didn't do a printout before he tweaked the ECU so I am not sure what it was before. I was pretty bummed that he forgot to do that but I didn't want to say anything since he hooked me up bigtime.

Being that you can't just PLUG in a consult device to modify it... mind explaining how he cracked the coding so easily... The entire ECU is VERY encoded, very similarly people have spent YEARS trying to crack the `96 OBDII Z32 TTs ecu with no luck...

He is a certified Nissan Master Technician. He didn't have to crack anything, and yes, all he did was plug in the consult device and made the modifications.

Yeah, the idle is a little higher now. I feel improvements both low end and high end but more so on the high end. Pulls harder now.

Other people here went to the dealer and advance the Ign. timing. in your case, I notice that your friend adjust more stuff...rigth. ask your friend if we can only advance the Ign. for performance or is more to it?

Thanks

As far as I know there is ONE station in town that has 93 -- and that is the only gas I put in my Z.

There is no way to mod the air/fuel mix the computer will just learn what you have done and adjust. My tech says the classes he has attended for the 350z they tell him it will just go back to the regular timing of 12BTDC, because you are not turning any carb. Check and see if it stays or not I would be courious to see what happens down the road.

Not if he changed the program in the EEPROM. That is the chip that holds the programing for the CPU. The CPU will just try to adjust to what ever it is programmed to from the EEPROM. The CPU doesn't come up with numbers on its own.

Have anyone used a o2 simulator in your Z? They are used to simulate the o2 sensor so the ecu won't know the change you made, everything will look normal to the ecu. (I'm not sure how strict now the ecu is, if it's just concerning with emmission then this might work. If not, maybe it can be used in combination w/SAFC2 to fool the ecu completely) If that can be used, then the advanced timing, cai, and exhaust mod should make decent power, and the power would stay. Just a thought. o2 simulator for WRX
