i have 2 questions. 1, how bad would you have to mess up and downshift to really effect your engine, ie driving 100 mph in 5th gear and missing 6th and going into 4th. 2. you can set the redline light upt o 8000 on the z or at least my 06, yet the engine will cut you off at 7,000. i accdiently went above 7 and could feel the engine cutting out the power

 

Sounds like you hit your rev limiter. They are designed to cut you off to prevent engine damage. Not sure about the Z, but a lot of cars you can have them removed.Going ~100 mph in 4th shouldn't hurt your car.

 

The rev limiter works for upshifting, but not on the down shift. If your in 5th you can shift accidentially to 4th or 2nd and over rev the motor causing lots of good stuff to happen..

 

I have missed gear before went into 4th over 100 no problems if you r quick and take out of gear....I bounce off the rev limiter quite a few times before no problems yet, I lowered my rev limit light to 6500 redlines at 6700 on 03 model just so when I am racing I can see the light blinking and know I am close so I dont bounce I cant watch my RPM gauge when I am racing I have very little side vision but I can see the light flashing out the corner of my eye.Anyway I drive like I stole it all the time...love to abouse this car.Better than timex takes a lickin and keeps on tickin
