Default I think the guy at the oil place put transmission oil in my Z....

hey i've been hearing about our cars needing matic J transmission oil.

I have an 05 at Z and the guy at the oil place told me he put some transmission oil in my car because it was low. He also recommended that we change it to synthetic because it shifts better.

I don't know what kind of fluid he put in there. It has been about 5 months now and nothing seems wrong. should i be worried? How can i tell if i have wrong transmission fluid?

im a complete newbie when it comes to cars... i'd totally do my own oil changes, but my neighborhood is filled with little kids always playing outside.

Well you can only get the J Matic fluid @ the dealership. Draining your pain will get most of the fluid out but not all of it. Not hard @ all just like an oil change. If you want it all swapped out you'll have to go to a dealership and have the system flushed.

DONT bring your Z to just "Some Place".... its too good for that!

I dont think a tech would take the time to actually check the level on the trans... Its a little too much work to then put in any fluid in and not charge you for it (tech's are super lazy)...

If you are worried about it... do a transmission fluid exchange...

If you are local to us in Duarte 91010 CA or just want to make a drive... I can help you out...

I'm not sure about the nissan tranny, but just dropping the pan doesn't usually get alot of the fluid out. You usually need to drop the pan, and remove the valve body. then, the last place to get the fluid is in the converter, but that requires removing the trans. Most trans shops have a device that can change about 80-90% of the fluid without opening up or removing the tranny. Also, use whatever fluid Nissan recommends....auto trans are very sensitive to the fluids required.

I got 7 quarts out when I drained and dropped the pan when I swapped out my VB. The tranny holds a total of 10 7/8 quarts.

oh wow. i really don't know if the tech put anything in it. he said he did. he said it was low and i should think about switching it out with synthetic fluids. he then said he added some fluid to it since it was low. i dont know why it would be low though. i took the car in while it was still around 20,000 miles.

Tranny fluid is never low unless you have a leak. There is nowhere for it to go

please anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

+1 tranny fluid is never low. Technically it could leak out the trans cooler into the radiator and not be noticed for a little while. But I've only heard that story from peg-legged, one eyed, hard drinking techs who just happened to have a parrot on their shoulder.
Seriously, it sound like this guy was trying to sell you something.

I got my tranny fluid replaced at the dealer with matic J at 27k miles because it was a little dark. Now with 33k its not reddish but a little darker. Is this normal? The shifts are smooth. Maybe because I always beat on it?
