Default Soon I hope

I hope Nismo comes out with a converter soon as one from any other name/company will void the warranty.

And when it does come out, it will give automatics the advantage.

Nismo probably will. Or TCI. I would WAIT, when NISMO starts coming out with products, everyone will, HKS, Greddy, they will be trying to get their hands in on everything.

I'm in on one,

hopefully around 3000 area stall would be perfect!

I would guess stock is around 2200-2300. I think 3200 would be perfect. At least it was on my Lexus SC400.

I hope Nismo's converter comes out soon. Anyone know when?

I feel like an idiot, but this is a good place for a techie to test his skills. Can anyone explain to me exactly what a torque converter does (besides the smart aleck remark "convert torque")

Greatly appreciated!

I agree my FireHawk had a 3200 and it was the perfect street TC yet when track time came it was on!

I wouldn't buy anything less than 3000, waste of money.

Edit add;

Great link,

Here is another good one

link to my old TC Manafacturer Faq

The Z manual specs the converter stall at 2650-2950.
Anybody tried swapping the AT's ring and pinion for the manual? That should help out in accelerating, too bad it would kill higher top end speeds though. But it might be perfect for those that will see 1/4 mile's only.

My buddy/mechanic had pegged it at over 2600 just by driving the car. He is pretty sharp. Sounds like he was right on the numbers.

3200 would be better though

lets say that they do come out with a new torque converter....

what type of differences would i expect to see when compared to my "stock" torque converter???

i heard something about a lockup clutch to help with fuel effiency

does the automatic 350z have that??

Thumbs up

You can lock the Torque Converter with programming IE when DynoJet uses 2003 programming they now have the ability to "lock" the TC thus producing much higher Dyno numbers than the days of old. But it is not something you need to do it's all done behind the scenes like plug N Play when driving/racing.

The TC is just a stock looking big steel donut, I am not too worried about it voiding my warranty, 2 hours labor to remove and keep your stock one around. But basiclly unless the dealer is really looking hard they (the aftermarket) make them look stock, of course it will rev harder at set rpm's but I like that

My car is way beyond worrying about warranty anywaZ.

*BAR NONE* a 3200 TC is THE BEST bang for the buck mod you can get for an Auto! Good for .5 or better (depending on your tires, you need to know how to hook and launch) or better.

It's a must for me, but it will decrease your gas milage because you will be romping on it all the time. Been there done that.

Then I added headers and gained my MPG back!

Oh this mod crap is so frustrating to wait, yet so exciting at the same time! Where are the UR Pullies!!

I was asking about aftermarket TC's for my Z in 2002 here LOL
