Hey guys. I just recently installed the sprung street organic clutch disc with heavy duty pressure plate and prolite flywheel. I love the way it revs much more freely and clutch engages very nicely. The only thing that bothers me is the noise that it makes when I drive under 1500 rpm. It sounds like a diesel truck. I dont know if this is normal because both flywheel and clutch are both from ACT. It might not sound as bad from outside the car as it sounds inside but it still is kind of annoying. My girlfriend might object to it also...LOL. I just want to know what everyone's opinion is on this and if its normal by any means. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.

 

Guess you are now getting used to clutch chatter

 

lightened flywheels will produce such chatter at low rpms. my Tilton does this all the way up to 2300rpms. Solution: keep it higher than 1500rpms (or 2300 in my case)

I have JWT clutch/flywheel combo, and I get the same noise below 2300rpm also.
It's the lighter flywheel that causes this noise, and it's not a bad thing to me
because it reminds me that I'm in a tuned vehicle.

I would never go back to stock clutch/flywheel.
The stock clutch has a super high engagement point like a truck.
I got to drive my friend's Z with stock clutch the other day and it was very
frustrating because it revs up and
drops reves like a turtle.

 

Yea I absolutely dont want to go back to stock. I love this setup. Im just wondering if I should have went with the streetlite instead of prolite. But then again it makes no sense cuz its still pretty close to the weight of the stock flywheel if I go streetlite. Maybe I can get used to the sound and it wont bother me as much.

 

IMO you've made the right choice. Just keep the revs higher than 2400rpm.

completely normal - and infact, this is probably the quiestest of all the combos out there! The solution? Simple - use the next highest gear and keep the revs up slightly

 

What´s the weight of the Prolite flywheel ??????

 

Streetlight = 16.9 lbs (8.3 lbs lighter than stock)
Prolight = 13.2 lbs (12.3 lbs lighter than stock)

Well I change my flywheel some time ago (JWT) and to tell you guys the truth i expected a lot more , of course it accelerates faster but maybe I was expecting more of a performance increase, but the 13.2lbs was the way I went because of daily driving, I know the tilton es like 8.0lbs.

 

I'm really getting sold on doing a fly/wheel clutch combo next. I like doing supporting mods first now vs going for all out power and having problems. Liking the info in this thread.

 

The only complain I have about my ACT clutch and JWT flywheel combo, is the sound it makes, you get used to it, but it doesn´t look good when a crowd is looking to your car, telling you how nice it looks and then here comes this horrible sound, but for performance purpose I get used to it.

 

I have a stage2 spec clutch and lightweight flywheel. i get the same sound under 2100 rpms. if you pull up to a crowd just rev it like a pimp.lol

 

I've been doing a lot of research on clutch/flywheel comparisons lately due in part to a tranny replacement. From what I've gathered, I'm not in favor of replacing my flywheel. If your talking about 1/10 second difference (0-60) as a perfromance gain and a cooler (lol) faster revving engine at standstill, I'll keep my slower Z and not look like an azzhat when driving around downtown Chicago. The olnly reason I've even considered a flywheel/clutch combo is because of the replaceable disc on some flywheels and possibly a better match of surfaces between same brand of product.

on the prolite, yo only get the noise below 1500 rpms. It is easy to learn to how not to make the noise.

I take clients out in my car all the time, and no one has ever heard the noise because I know how to avoid it.

BTW, this is not clutch chatter. Clutch chatter is when you get a shuddering when engaging the clutch. This noise is more of a resonance that seems to resonate the tranny gears.

 

Im gonna get used to it. I love the way it feels when driving. I was going off a merge today and going redline was like a wow factor. It definitely didnt feel like 1/10 of a second difference on performance. I noticed a nice increase in performance. I mean you can just feel it when your going WOT. Lovin it.
