Default Shortblock, Internals, etc...

I've done a fair bit of searching through some threads regarding building a VQ35 and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I have a few questions if anybody cares to answer them.

I'm looking for longevity (i realize this might be impossible) from a built motor, i.e. building it for more horsepower than it will actually see.

1. Are there any companies that make iron equivalents of the VQ35? Or is sleeving the block the only alternative for increasing strength?

2. What characteristics should I look for in forged internals? I.E. What materials should they be made from? Or should I just look into companies that already provide solutions. If so, I have only found a few companies could someone list some for me.

3. Are there any good aftermarket companies making any decent progress with the VQ? I'm not very knowledgeable about the VQ, I'm more of an RB fellow but I'm learning heh.

well, as for replacing the VQ block with something stronger, if you're looking for 3000 hp, that might be necessary. Up to 1600-1800hp or so, nope, not necessary.

what are your power goals? 550whp can be done safely wtihout sleeving the motor, on forged pistons/rods.

I know I will get criticized but I'll ask anyways.

I'm planning on building the strongest engine I can possibly do. I'm looking for 750 HP from the motor, and hopefully I want to build the engine to handle more than that for longevity purposes.

I know its a pipe dream, but oh well.

I'm carefully researching parts like pistons, rods, etc.. and I can't seem to tell the difference between all of them. I'm going to build a seperate block for all of this, as my G is my daily driver and I don't feel like having it off the road for extended periods of time.

Any suggestions on parts?

750Hp is definitely not an unreasonable goal with the VQ. Below are the forged internals parts and manufacturers needed to make 750hp reliably.

Sleeves:
-Darton - MID or Open deck replacement sleeves, bored out to 100mm(3.8Liter)

Pistons:
-Arias - Extreme Duty 9.1(preferable)

Rods:
-Pauter
-GT Motorsports
-Carrillo

Accessories:
-ARP - 1/2 Head Studs and Main Studs
-New OEM Rev-up Oil Pump, Water Pump, Gaskets
-Cosworth Head Gaskets
-GT Motorsports Cams
-Ferrea Valvetrain
-HKS FCon V-Pro and Knock Amp
-Etc...

Machining and Assembly:
-GT Motorsports(West Coast) - install sleeves, head work, assembly, tuning and installation of enginer into your car.
-Forged Performance(East Coast) - most highly recommended online retail shop, tuner and engine builder(unsure of machining capabilities). This is where you buy everything you need..pistons, sleeves, rods, ARP studs, FCon, etc...
-BuiltZMotors (East Coast) - strictly machining. full machining of block and heads, assembly and timed...engine shipped to your door.

You sound very much like me, when we do something, we want to do it once, and to do it right. If you want 750whp you build a power house with tolerance levels, at the least twice that power you seek.

You can check my rebuilt components here ZGCA

And, I am staying with a 9.5:1 compression ratio; people on this site may disgree with what I did, but I strongly believe that resleeving and ported heads are necessary for what you want to do. Absolutely, have a strong bottom end, but you also want to keep the power where it should be, on the top end.

With resleeving, you need to find a reputable and knowledgeable engine builder to do it, as the process requires special skill and experience. Or the installer may work with a machine shop that knows what's involved in a resleeving process.
