the cost of 400 hp.
OK so im new here, but not new to the VQ motors. ive been driving them since about 2000 (95 maxima 5 speed w bolt ons). i love the VQ motors, and it was a real deciding factor in what car ill be getting next, i was going back and forth between a GTO and a G35/350 (im 6'8" and dont fit in many other rides ha)
but to get to the chase, im seeing a few guys that run like 15 psi and run huge hp, but need a lot of work on the short block.
im wondering what i should plan on spending to get around 400 rwhp (its my daily driver). Obviously ill have to run FI of some kind, ill probably go turbo, but am not totally opposed to supercharger becaue it seems a little easier to install.
but yeah, sorry for the long post. long story short, what will 350-400 rwhp cost me?

You ought to PM a sponsor in your area that does tuning. They could give you a quote.

For this, you must have a slight baller status..
i sent a message to altered atmosphere already off thier website, waiting on reply.
ill probably check Violent racing, and there was another one on here i cant remember, they just posted a video of a z going 10.9x's... ill be checking them
10k isnt that bad i guess. is that parts only, or parts and installs/tunes you think?

ok, well let me pose another question while the subject is in...
how much power do i need to run 12.mid because power is kind of arbitrary, i just want a car that moves and moves quick and that i can enjoy carving corners, cruising, and all the good stuff in.

There's a guy around here making just a tad over 400 with a turbonetics turbokit and stock motor. I'm not a fan of turbonetics' stuff, but it seems to work for him. You don't need to necessarily build your motor. You can spend 20k on a motor, and a bad tune will cause it to fail sooner or later. And you can have the car tuned just right, and make some good power without having to spend too much money on all kinds of internal motor work.
Like the other guy said. The easiest and cheapest way to make big power is nitrous. I personally am not a big fan on it. But if you don't mind refilling your bottle, and always making sure you have enough pressure in it, go for it.
That being said. Get another daily driver. Cause ish happens. Motors aren't the only things that break when making that much more power then stock.

i have a chevy pickup too, its a beater, i was thinking of selling it for mod money , but i think i had better just keep it.
how do these engines respond to nitrous? good power, any really bad wear issues?
nitrous may be a good way to go for me, since i hardly ever really "race" it, and i mostly just cruise and carve. and bolt ons and suspension will cover me for that.
edit: also, the 12s question, any thoughts from anyone? what will it take to get to 12s ?
