Default Since oil consumption is the hot topic lately....

How about the engine builders on this site chime in with their inputs on (core) engines they tear down and rebuild? I'm assuming during the teardown/inspection process (of a short block) they are mainly concerned with the integrity of the cylinder walls, but have they noticed anything out of the ordinary with the piston rings? If during the teardown/inspection phase of a long block, have they noticed excessive valve float/evidence of seal leakage? Since the oil consumption issue seems to mostly relate to Rev-ups, perhaps they can chime in on those specific engines. I'm not sure how many long/short block rev-ups have been rebuilt, but surely some input from the engine guys can answer *some* questions?

Also, as a bonus, it'd be cool if they could give the engine condition during the teardown process if the owner broke it in per the manual, or beat the hell out of it from day one. Although this would require input from the owner, it may help settle *that* debate.

Anywho, just an idea.

I'm sure the REVUP motors short blocks are fine. I never have a oil residue in my catch can which means my rings are working perfectly and so is my PCV system.

I think the main problem is the valve overlap previously stated in the 06' oil consumption thread. Some more info from the engine builders would help out a lot. We need to understand more about it rather than have Nissan of North America guesstimate everything.
