Default Normal oil consumption

Believe me, I searched for the past 30 minutes , What do you guys
consider normal oil consumption for an 06 Z. I drive the car pretty hard but never go over 5500rpm's. I have been doing an oil test and have burned about 1/3 of a quart after 1k miles. Is this acceptable for a car with only 4000 miles on it? Thanks.

There are a dozen My 2006 burns oil threads. Why not ask members who have completed oil consumption tests?

No way thats normal I was burning about the same amount on my 06 before it was totaled.Nissan was trying to shaft me on this.So I got myself a lemon law lawyerBut the car was totaled before anything developed I would have the dealer do a oil consumption test and be sure to document every thing.I would go into the dealer with pad and pencil and wright down everything those f---ers saidAnyway I would consider 1qt or less between oil changes

I burn about 1 quart every 1k miles on my 03. Keep an eye on it, and see if it gets any worse.

Default oil burning

We'll, after 800miles, I pulled the dip stick and it was normal. I'm not sure if it is due to the cold weather, but I tried to drive it hard to make it a legit test.

I was at the dealer today, they said the same, it looks normal. However, he did say that I shouldn't have to add oil until 2000-3000miles.

These cars burn oil. I think all new owners need to be aware of that fact. I let mine go a little to long, but I'm thankful for this board that somone brought up the burning oil issue.

Well. That is not bad for an 06 actually. Still, even that to me is a lot. If you figure it out over time you'll understand why.

There are numerous threads on this subject of which I have pretty much replied to all of them. Just search "consumption". I noticed my problem at 7000 when my dipstick did not read after 3000 miles and after reading a thread here. No luck so far with Nissan. I've been anywhere from 1/3 to 2/3 down over 5 tests and nothing had been done. I understand that Nissan considers a qt per 1000 miles normal. That is just crazy BS talk! I'm still hammering away at it. Best of luck you.

my oil level was so low it was 3qts low. That was a 8k miles. I think the oil consumption is kept secret by the dealer. However, go to the G35 and BMW m5 boards and you will find similar problems like the 350z 06'...I am familiar with V8's burning oil, but I just never thought a japanese 6 would burn.

good luck. who ever said sports cars are low maintenance.

Well, that's 3000 miles per quart. You would have a lot of trouble trying to make a case that that's excessive.

Mine ('06) has consistantly used 1 qt/1500 miles since brand new. I currently have 9500 miles on it.

Most of you with oil consumption issues have the M/T correct with the rev up motor in it?
Or do any of you have the auto with the 287 in it burning oil?
Peace!

Pretty sure it was determined that the vast majority with the problem, if not all, had rev up motors.

I don't recall hearing of anybody with an auto having the oil ***** problem but would like to know as well.

Yes, I realize that, I have read just about every thread on the subject. If you look closer at my question, I asked what "normal" oil consumption is. All the other threads talk about losing 2 quarts every 1k, I'm obviously not in that boat.

I have an 06 GT 5AT with a build date of 10/05, purchased at the end of 4/06. She had 13 miles at purchase and has 12K on her now with no oil consumption issues, knock HARD on wood. I check the stick regularly ever since all the threads started popping up.

The problem does seem to be related to the MT+rev-up combo. Btw - I drive my Z hard, and in manual mode all the time; shifting only when she is rev-up to 5500RPM+

Same here, my 5at has 13k+ miles on her and no problems. I use dino oil, and have it changed every 3k. I even auto crossed it 4 times between the 6k-9k oil change with no noticeable oil loss.

Funny you metioned about them keeping it a secret. When I went in at 7000 (3000 miles on that oil change), I mentioned to them how low it was and showed it to them. They just commented that it was low. Keep in mind that it was not showing up on the dipstick. They had no concern beyond saying that. They did the oil change and that was it. Personally, I think quality at Nissan is an afterthought.

make sure to double check your oil level after an oil change if your not changing your own oil....last time they(dealer) overfilled my engine by at least two qts. Had to take it back the next day for them to drain the excessive oil.

Honestly, I dont think oil consumption is normal for any 4 stroke engine. That may not be what the dealers tell you, but I really dont buy any of their bs. I worked at a machine shop for over 5 years, and I can tell you if there is oil consumtion, then there is a problem.
