ok, just tore apart my freinds car, a tech said that a lifter was sticking therefore makin a knocking sound. well we got it apart and now i am being an idiot, so please tell me, what is a lifter?

 

do you have the valve cover off

 

yes, valve cover off and cams out

 

should have left the cams in till you did some other things....if you pm me your number I will try to talk you through it.

Why would you take apart the motor if you had no idea of what you were doing?

 

ok, i know what i was doing. this is not the first motor i have taken apart and def wont be the last. but it was the first boxer motor, so some things were say different, like only 2 nuts holding the whole engine in. thought that was crazy, but i was right anyways, just a disagreement i made 20$ off of

You've had motors apart before and still don't know what a lifter is??

Every motor I've ever pulled (v6 and 8s) were always held in w/ two nuts at the engine mounts. then two more at the trans.
