I know, thats what I'm worried about. I'm not very knowledgeable about engines.

I dumped my little sis's Celica GTS to tthe tune of 9k or so and twisted it up good. She had exhaust and a couple other little odds and ends but nothing major. Toyota replaced the engine without batting an eye. Who did the reflash? Did it get some low octane gas by chance?

If they do not step up and cover it call nissan. Threaten with legal action and comment on oil consumption and how the mech said engine had metal flakes it oil. The only mod you have that maybe would void would be reflash.

If you only take one recommendation from this board, this is what you need to do.

GET THEIR FAILURE ANALYSIS IN WRITING!

The sooner the better. What happens next depends on what is in their report. Forward it to me. I'll help you out.

I think the first piece of advice you should be taking is to get a lawyer. Don't go at it alone. Never works well that way.

In all honesty, I think YOU fuked up the engine...but for your own good I still hope they replace it. Nissan sets a limit on how fast their engines should spin and that limit is not to be breached. However you changed the limit and put it in the "danger zone" and since you've already replaced your clutch/flywheel....I am assuming those were not an easy 15k miles.

This could still very well be an issue with the recent clutch replacement..however if they figure out that you had TS reflash, they could easily pin this on you....

Hey I did that too on my old GTS but to 11k rpms. The dealer blamed it on the shifter linkage since there was a ration of this going on. Not only did I get a new motor but a TRD short shifter that fixed the problem. There was a few GTS that had issues when down shifting, specially some of the autos. When the paddle shifter was used, it would go into 1st no matter in what gear you were in.

DAMMIT.

The engine is not covered by warranty. They determined that the failure was caused by redlining (they never mentioned going over redline though, nor the ECU).
What is the next step? He says it will be $8.3k (it might have been more) for a complete repair. Sounds too steep to me.

I have another dealership that I'm friends with (I guess dealer and friend don't go together though..), I left a message and I'm hoping they might help me out.

Should I get a second opinion? Is it possible that it wasn't due to high-rpms and they are saying that to void my warranty? Or is that just very wishful thinking?

Sorry about the bad news.

I have been racing every weekend for three years. Redline every gear in every race. My motor runs like a champ (fingers crossed). This sounds like bull to me.

The procedure for mediation is outlined in your warranty book.

I bet you anything they underfilled your oil...realized they ****ed up...and are now blaming it on you. One time I changed my oil and a few weeks later I pulled out of my driveway and it had similiar symptoms as you described. Luckily I didn't drive it for more than 1/4m, so I just shut it off and ran up to the parts store and got some more oil. This was right after I bought the car and knew nothing of oil consumption problems. Did you notice your oil pressure gauge reading extremely low or anything while it was making these noises. To bad you couldn't have taken off your mods before taking it to the stealership.

You need to press the oil issue. They told you it was seriously low. They can't take that back.

Focus on the low oil problem they already spoke of and don't let them try to side track it to redline redherrings.

I really cant believe they are going to try and leave you with the bill. You have an 06 with known oil consumption problems for that year. This really shoudnt be all that difficult to get done I would think. You only have 15k miles on the car. You need to be more aggresive with them. Dont let them tell you what you have to do, tell them what they have to do.

To my knowledge the 02 Celica GTS was popping motors left and right If u miss shifted and red lined the motor once it would blow.. They replaced all blown motors and discontinued that motor.

i think u can fight it.

they have to cover it through warranty. (if it was bought from a dealer). they all come with a warranty. i bought a used 04 track model at 34k and have a 60k warranty under drivetrain and engine.

ur covered.

warranties don't cover item that are meant to wear down (ie clutch, brakes, wiper blades) unless there is a manufactures deffect. Look at your warranty literature it will have that listed there.

I dont think the egine itself is considered a wear and tear item.
I was reffering to him when he mention that a clutch should be replaced under warranty.

Okay, so an update: They found all my mods. They tried to say my MREV2 and spacer were for nitrous, but I yelled at them and now they forgot about that. But they are pissed about my reflash. I don't they know about the raised rev-limit, but they will probably find out (somehow). I think I'm screwed at this point. I'm also starting to think that theres a 95% chance it was me going over redline that caused the engine to blow.

Any advice? I might talk to a lawyer, see if they think I have any chance at winning. If they have any doubts, I'm thinking I should drop it and take the fall.

But if I do take the fall, this is the deal: this car was a gift for graduating. Flame the hell out of me, I know I ruined a brand new car. I feel like an idiot. So now, I believe my new budget for a car will be ~8-10k. Any ideas? I'm getting out of the modding scene, too much money, too risky.. learned my lesson. I'd like a sedan - assuming I go the used path, what should I look into?
