short throw in 350z?
im thinking of putting an after market short throw in my car i have seen a forum in the z tech forum of people not recomending it, do people feel the same here? has any one here put one in there z? is it worth it or should i just keep it stock? i know there is one that comes in the z stock i just think it could be shorter doesnt feel like a short throw
You'll get both sides of the argument from people who've had good and bad experiences. At the very least, there's the expense of the rod plus installation. Before you you undertake that (and it's not a difficult job), have you considered a shorter profile shift ****?
I initially switched from the stock **** to the Nismo CF ****. It was a little shorter but a lot skinner, and just never felt right in my hand. Way too thin, in my opinion.
I just replaced the Nismo **** with a RAZO RA117 ****. It's about the heaviest **** on the market at 480g, which is 1.1 lbs. The stock **** is 215g or just under half a pound, and the Nismo **** is lighter still. The RAZO **** has 3 different height adjustments and I used the lowest height setting for the shortest throw. I kept the finishing washer from the Nismo **** because it looked good, but removing it would shorten the throw even more. To help make up for the shorter throw and reduced leverage is the mass of the ****, which lends quite a bit of inertia and smoothness. It's also quite a bit shorter than the stock ****.
If you're considering the short throw, you may want to try a shorter **** first. It makes a significant difference.

instead of buying a short throw shifter.... u can modifiy the stock one... all u have to do is pull out the stock shifter... and drill a hole about 1/4 in. or 1/2 above the stock settings.... then put it back in. best part is.. if u dont like it... u can always go back to stock settings 8). i'll post a DIY later

I have the Fidanza. I almost took it out b/c I was missing 2nd and 5th A LOT. After a while, it seems to have broken in or something. Maybe I just got used to it? I love it now.
thanks for the input guys, drilling a hole in the stock shifter? not a bad idea i might try that, would love a diy, and no install charge for me ill do it my self, did it in all my other cars this should be no different, iffy about making a hole in the stock one tho wont it weaken the strength of the shifter? well thanks for the input guys, its already being shipped so its gettin put in one way or another, if i dont like it i will just take it out but im really starting to think about the custom hole making in the stock then you could really shorten it, 1/2 would be really short, also i found a couple of sites for diy install but they both have different ways of doing it, does anyone know a good site for a diy on this topic?
I hav ethe B&M but that doesn't mean the shifter sits low.. if any its not that much... the throw is whats shorter...and IMO is a very nice mod...
specially those who like to beat up the clutch with their KUNFU shifting adn then regret when they messed it up..much easier to make a quick shift with the short shifter with out beating it.
People will say the ratle bla bla bla bla bla....
the rattle , some people have it and its easy enough to fix it... mostly related to the stock **** and the stock boot.
Other people dont lik eit because well, they simple dont like to have to readjust to learn to shift with it. I did this mod shortly after i got the Z and it works great

yeap youd have to try it... as i said i had my shortshifter for quit a while now... and it feel normal...stock feel..other than its a lil harder due to my RPS max 6 puck clutch....
I jsut recently drove my friends Z and man... it feels much longer
as i said, if you are going to do it do it sooner than later... its all a matter of getting used to it with the shifting, but some people jsut dont like to put the time in
I've had my B&M in for about 2 years now. It's been great and I would never go back to stock. The rattle problem is real and I've posted ways of fixing it. The solidness of the shifter and its pivot structure is impressive and the 33% shorter throw while retaining the standard shift **** height is just right.
good ****, thanks guys, can wait to get mine, ive had short throws in all my cars and have loved em this should be no different, and rattle probbaly wont bother me any way because i always have my system up so dont really hear anything lol, but im sure it would be an easy fix
I'm going to throw the Rogue in this weekend hopefully, just got a pm from sw150 and my bushings are in the mail.
I'll see how the 1 to 2 is when i get it installed....actually going to the strip next month....also a hopefully.

I've always wanted to put in a short throw shifter but i've always read bad things about it(rattle, snapping, etc). But i see alot of good reviews here ,so i just might change my mind. Let us know how it goes after you install it!!!
well guys dropped it in today and im lovin it, was a quick install only took about 20 mins if that, probably take longer to rotate tires then intall a short throw, tany009 ive heard of rattling but never snapping lol if anyone has ever snapped a shifter it must have been made out of thin plastic or fiberglass or something lol, but yeah guys install went smooth, went for test drive, worked out just as i had imagined deffinately reccomend it, even if you do get it and dont like it you could always sell it, so its not a costly thing if you dont like it imo
