Thumbs up Unorthodox Racing Al Flywheel/Clutch, dyno, pics, vid

I had been hoping to install this myself, but work has been too busy, and AutoX has started. Here's some pics of the parts:

UR 6-Paddle Ceramic Clutch Kits - Sprung Hub (Ultra G)
-comes with everything needed for the install!

12lb Aluminum UR Flywheel:

Dyno results:

Feb 2nd @12 noon: Dyno after AAM Flash, before Flywheel/clutch install:
Pull #1: Max HP – 247.7 Max TQ: 232.2
Pull #2: Max HP – 253.0 Max TQ: 236.3
*since the first pull on the dynos are generally considered to be low, I’m only using the 2nd pull to compare.

Feb 2nd @ 5pm: Dyno after AAM Flash and UR flywheel/clutch install
Pull #1: Max HP – 257.9 Max TQ: 244.7
Pull #2: Max HP – 262.2 Max TQ: 249.6

Flywheel/Clutch Gain:
+ 9.2 HP
+ 13.3 TQ

These are very good gains IMO. The power gains are throughout the powerband, it's not just the peak HP/TQ, which means it's much more usable!

Here’s the vids from the last 2 dynos.

Dyno#1

Dyno #2

Driving home tonight, the clutch is harder to depress, but not too hard. It feels like the OEM clutch, but with 50% to 80% more force required...but similar engaging feel - so it's not abrupt. I'm glad I didn't go with a non-spring hub clutch b/c I'd probably make a fool of myself everytime I stall the car

If you want a list of my mods, check out my cardomain site, page 2.

-Peter

*I just posted a full thread in the tuning section b/c I got an AAM flash just before installing the UR flywheel/clutch...so there's more info over there on the flash.

nice! After i get some springs/dampeners, I want to do this same combo. Maybe use the JWT flywheel instead of the UR one though. Big gains.

after driving on this combo over the weekend, I'm still getting use to the clutch...it chatters a bit if I try to slowly slip the clutch, but if I'm trying to take off hard, it's actually much easier to get a good launch.

I can hear the clutch/flywheel at idle when I'm n neutral and the clutch is engaged, but when I disengage the clutch, the sound goes away. Below 2K rpms, there's a bit a rattle/noise from the flywheel/clutch, but as soon as I get above 2K rpms, it goes away.

In all, I'll have to change some of my driving habits to avoid rattles/noises, but it's still very streetable. Now I'm thinking I should pick up a pair of DR's and hit the drag strip!

I wonder why your A/F was so much leaner on the "after" clutch dyno?

yeah, I noticed that too. i was thinking that the "AAM Flash, pre-clutch/flywheel" dyno was done with the car not completley warmed up...I had dropped my car off early that morning b/c I had to goto work, so I didn't get to watch that dyno run.

*from my understanding, adding a flywheel/clutch should not change A/F...

Another great write-up. One thing I noticed though, upgrading a clutch/flywheel shouldn't add power. It is your air/fuel ratio that added some power.

Those are still good numbers for your mods. What's next on the agenda?

the flywheel/clutch upgrade shouldn't affect the AF ratio...I'm thinking that the AF changed a bit b/c the intial dyno (with only AAM flash) might have been done w/ the engine not completely warmed up.

next mod: DONE! There's only a few more things I could do, and still stay legal for AutoX BSP class (i.e. better diff, remove stereo, ...). I've got a few small things in the mail...JIC-Magic racing bucket seat, new set of AutoX tires...
