Default Transmission Help!!!

howdy Z buddies!!! Well i recently purchased a 2003 350Z and its used. I bought it from a wholesale place so they dont have any records of anything. i ran a carfax and everything is fine. The only thing im worried about is my tranny. the typical 03 synchro issue. My 3rd gear grinds unless i granny shift and downshiftin from 6th to 5th grinds sometimes. i went to a nissan dealership and they said they need the stupid paper work that the car had its service at 30000 miles. i recently redid the tranny and differencial fluid thinking that would solve the problem. anyone ever had a problem similar because im curious to know if the dealer will fix this problem under warranty or not. and i wana get this done before 60000 miles because i have 44000 miles already. thanks.

It doesnt matter if the fluid was changed or not if is under 60k, it is covered under your factory warranty. Go to another dealer.....

It should cost you notta. Call 1-800-nissan1 and file a complaint if the dealer told you it was not covered because you dont have receipt for the fluid change. I say the dealer will call you within a day or 2

Yea, you should not have to pay a single dime (except for a rental). This is be completely covered. The issues with the early trannies is not something Nissan wants advertised. However, I would try another dealer. If the story is the same, start getting very vocal.

Call Nissan. Quote the Magnusson-Moss Act, etc, etc. You will get a new tranny and you absolutely will need one. Third gear grind will typically decay into no third gear at all. Take care of this quickly.

well ima go to another nissan dealership and check it out. One more question....my throw out bearing is close to shot and whines when not engaged BADLY. you guys think maybe the reason the gears grind is because of the throw out bearing not engaging fully or something in that nature? Thanks for all the information......greatly appreciated

How do you know it's the throw out bearing? Besides..if the throw out bearing was affecting clutch engagement, you'd be grinding in all gears, and have trouble just getting into first or reverse from a stop.

just tell them you know it's a widespread problem with 2003 model 350Z's and you simply want the same fix that thousands of other 350Z's have had which is transmission replacement.

I'll piggyback on this thread for a sec...i have a transmission that is fine, doesn't grind gears or anything but sometimes it is hard to get into first gear from neutral if i am sitting still, i have a tilton clutch. Also, sometimes if i go too slow in a gear it will get stuck in it, even if i have the clutch down it will not come out, i have to either force it out or let the clutch out a bit and then push it back down.

Any ideas?

change the tranny fluid...unless it was recently changed. how many miles on tranny and how many on clutch? i dont know if this might be an issue but maybe if you broke the clutch in the wrong way, it might affect it.

Sounds like your clutch isn't fully disengaging at low load points. I'd try a pedal adjustment before anything else.
