I have a 3.5 pumpkin in my 5AT and am considering upgrading to the 3.7.

Thanks.

i dont know much about final drive gears...so lower (like 3.7 as opposed to 3.9)= quicker acceleration with a slower top speed? i live in east tennessee...im never gonna touch 155 so if i can have quicker acceleration up to 100 or so

I have an 05 track, same engine as 35th. I was looking into a 3.9 but my rpm's seem to be high in 6th. I would like to drive down the high way in 6th and not be into boost, 3k-3.5k but i don't think it's posible. from what i remember b4 i put it up for the winter, in 6th gear at 65mph my rpm's are closo to 3k. now if i put the gear in does anyony see a problem driving this car w/ out boosting the whole time? As soon as i get a chance to get my car out i will back up this information correctly. heaven knows im probably not 100% correct. But i would like to go w/ a differ. gear. From what i'm hearing in this conversation, will a new gear drop right in w/ out additional prts on the trck model? Could somebody pm me. i would appreciate any info on all my babble. thanks

I am curious what MPG (not MPH) you are getting with 3.7 rear end?

Its the opposite. The higher the final drive (3.9 is the highest offered at this time), the quicker your acceleration and lower your top speed. Supposedly the 3.9 gears offer about a 10% boost in acceleration in all gears for a loss of a few mph up top.

Just got my car buttoned back up with 3.9 gears. I run 3200 RPM at 80 MPH in 6th on 235/40-18 F and 255/40-18 rear in my '03 Track. Still trying to figure out why your RPMs are that high...

Good mod. Car feels pretty much normal, since the gains are linear, but it's deffinitely quicker! Just slightly higher RPMs and it just feels stronger at any given point in any given gear; don't have to downshift to pass, either. Wish I could have gotten a Cusco too...

for the people who did the swap, did a humming sound came up? It came up when I did mine. Still thinking about taking the whole thing apart or not. Can get pretty loud sometimes.

Ummmm.....you don't want the 3.9 if you are "boosted". If anything, you would want the 3.3 that the AT guys get. Do a search for the swap and you'll see what I am talking about. If you went with 3.9. you'd never get past a red light!!!

Can you put the 3.7 in a 5AT? Do I need a pumpkin (what's a pumpkin?)?

Do you lose cruise control?

Late,
Nick

No humming sound in my lsd, it grinded a little after my first diff oil change to synthetic, but was solved with some diff friction additive, now it's pretty silent.

whoever installed your gears did not properly shim/set the gear mesh correctly. the lsd will not cause any humming sound.

"race" cars typically get setup on the looser, not tighter side of things

if you dropped in a FD into a stock 06' Z what kind of 1/4 mile times would you be seeing with the 3.7 and the 3.9? with the stock i think average good run in a 1/4 is around 13.8 with an 06'.
