Default tach question

When you insert your key into the igintion and turn it to the start position, without actually trying to start the car (foot off the clutch) does the Tach needle swing all the way over to redline, then immediatly drop back down to zero as part of the systems pre-check start up procedure?

I think my last Yamaha R1 did it as part of the electronics system check. I am trying to track down a noise that seems to be coming from my Z'z factory tach, that starts in at about 3,700 RPM and can't recall now if the Z is suppose to do that as part of it's start up sysetms check because if it did, it's not doing it anymore
