2007 Z - Wierd noise
Quick question for the 07 guys. When your car is at idle do you hear any clicking/knocking coming from the engine. I have an 07 and it now has about 200 miles on it. I am hearing a distinct click/knock coming from the left side of the car at idle. Sounds like it is coming from the exhaust system. It doesn't sound like the valves because they make their own special noise and its not the typical catalytic converter cooldown noise. I'm not one to make a big deal out of noises on the car but my 06 purred at idle. Just checking...any reaction would be appreciated.
The car makes a lot of the same drivetrain noises as my 06 did...transmission/brakes etc....this noise is an engine noise. I hear it when the car is stopped and engine is at idle. Figure to drive for another 1000 miles or so and see if it gets louder or not.
August....mine does that too. I think all Z's have the clutch noise. This noise is different though. When the clutch is pushed-in it is still there. Definitely an engine noise.

My 07 was making alot of wierd noises at first. But from what Ive gathered, most of it is normal. Now at 18xx, Ive either gotten used to them or they quieted down. Most of the noises I am talking about are drivetrain noises. If yours sounds liek its coming from the engine then maybe you should bring it in.
I have the same ticking from the left side, and I have barely over 130 miles. I think it does sound like a valve tap. I also heard it on my 2002 Maxima, but that was way after it hit 30k miles. Perhaps some jack-off test drove our Zs before we bought them and red lined the hell out of them just to get his rocks off!!!!
I had the same noise when I bought mine..It had 12 miles on it and I was the first person to drive it after it arrived at the dealership...I now have 1,200 miles on it and the engine noise has subsided... I can tell you that it has transmission noise when the clutch pedal is depressed..I think all the Z's do this as my friends 06 makes the same noise.

Thanks for the responses guys. I played around with it a little more today and it is not coming from the clutch. I am aware of the clutch noise and know what that sounds like. It is sounds like it is coming from the exhaust. It is a pronounced ticking....almost like a loud valve noise. Almost like something is flapping. Its just frustrating because the car is new and you would not expect to hear things like this from a high performance Japanese sports car.

My 07 does this too... only 200 miles on it... makes a really weird rattle noise when at idle and clutch depressed... I'll keep an eye on it, but a tech friend of mine said it's normal..
Took it to the dealer last week and had the tech guys look/listen to it. They said the noise was normal....but who knows. They probably wanted to get me out of there without them having to do a warranty repair.
Anyway, checked the oil levels and tested it with the clutch pushed in and let out. The service manager told me that the Z's are pretty noisy at idle and not to worry. If the noise gets worse they told me to bring it back in. The car has about 700 miles on it now. Going to continue to monitor it and see how things go.
I can tell you that as the car is getting more miles on it things seem to be working a lot smoother (clutch, transmission, etc.).
