Default Rear diff whine on 2006 6spd

Anyone else have a whine in the rear differential? Seems loudest when I let off the gas slightly and coast in 3rd gear and up.

No. I wonder if the differential alignment is off. Have you compared it to another similar model?

i have a track model with an LSD and it whines while cruising on 1st. i don't hear it on any other gears due to the noise from my exhaust. i think mine is normal. i hear it on some porsches too. i actually love the sound it makes.

i think if you change to high performance fluid it will lessen the whine, maybe even get rid of it.

I have an 03 performance model and i hear my diff make that same noise goin into, coast, and get out of 3rd gear. It doesnt happen everytime but I usually notice it on cold nights after starting my car and driving off (and i turn off the radio to really listen to the noise). I was wondering what it was exactly and my friend whos a bmw mechanic said its the diff and it usually results when u bottom out over a speedbump too many times (which i usually do no matter now slow i go haha). He also said u shouldnt start worrying about ur diff untill it makes a noticable click noise when you make a u turn.

hope that was somewhat helpfull

Thanks. It is relatively minor at this point. However, it would be nice just to hear the exhaust noise only.

It might not be your diff. It might be your transmission. I have a whine as well but its the transmission, sorta sounds like a charger.

I put redline fluid in both trans and rear end, when the car is cold it whines likea cat asking for a back scratch, lol. Once it warms up, it goes away.

My gears whine if I give it anyhwhere from 50%-75% throttle, sounds like it has a blower or something, but I guess Im used to it. I also have the 75mph whine, but I cant tell if its coming from the trans. or rear end. BTW Im running royal purple in the diff. and trans.

I have amsoil in my trans and diff, and it still whines. Since my Z is an 03 with almost 58k on it now, I feel safe telling you that its probably not a big deal.

The 350z makes a lot of sounds that other cars don't (or you can't hear in other cars) ... just get used to them and realize your car is fine.

It's just that dealers have ignored real problems in other new cars I've owned and before you know it the warranty is over and the dealer says sorry it's out of warranty there's nothing we can do for you.
