Default Best oils, lubricants?

Im planning on changing all my oils/lubricants.

I currently use the mobil 1 5w30 synthetic but i have seen/heard some bad things about it so im planning on switching to something better, probably royal purple as i see thats popular. Not sure which kind though, 5w30? 0w30? whats the difference anyway?

Also, how about differential oils? Im not even sure how to change it and whats the best one to use and what it does?

Any others?

There are a lot of other threads out on this...but, so you get a good answer...I use Royal Purple 10W-30 and Purolator PureOne filter. I could tell an immediate smoothness feel and sound difference right away...really, I did. It's really good stuff. Amsoil is also popular oil.

one quam with the K&N oil filters...

They were really hot when they came out and everyone was running them. Now it seems people are having issues with them. I ran one on my 240 for a while, noticed a bit of oil pressure loss and eventually lost my turbo, not sure if it was the turbos time, or a result of the filter, but I won't get one again.

My buddy also noticed pressure drop in his supra from the K&N, swapped for OEM Toyota and problem solved.

Maybe we got bad filter, maybe there is something else, just my expirience.

The Purolator filter is a great filter for little cash. Mobil1 filter is on par for more cash.

Oil is up to you, I am getting off the Mobil1 bandwagon aswell and am looking towards either the euro-castrol or Motul.

Stick with a 5W-30 or 10W-30 if you're running Royal Purple.

Regarding differential oil, I would recommend getting 2 quarts of Redline MT-90 (GL4 spec only!). I changed my differential fluid this weekend, and the old stuff that came looked like really thick hot chocolate. The difference was immediate and noticeable.

To change the diff fluid, you need to raise the car on a lift or 4 jack stands (car must be level). On the bottom of the diff, there is a drain plug that uses a 10mm hex socket or a really long 10mm allen wrench.

Open the drain plug, let the old fluid drain for 10-15 minutes, close it up (put a new washer on). Refill the diff using a suction gun which you can buy from any auto parts store for about $15. Fill until the fluid starts dripping out of the fill hole.

There are more comprehensive instructions on the site, so look around. I believe Monsta had a good write-up, so search his threads.

Good luck and welcome to the board.

For diff fluid I can't find the specs for 07, but I found 04 and 05 specs calling for GL-5.

I was just going to drop redline 80w-90 in, for my 1200 mile flush, along with redline MTL in the tranny, and unknown motor oil (still deciding).

Anybody have a different suggestion? I'm DEF. doing a breakin flush though

typically the tranny will take a 50/50 mixture of Redline MT-90 and MTL (which brings it to the Nissan recommended weight and viscosity). Double check that spec because there is a big difference between GL-4 and GL-5. GL-5 is DEFINITELY not be used in our trasmission as it interferes with our synchros.

^^^ This is mostly all good advise.

Motul, Amsoil, Redline, Royal Purple are all good choices (in that order)

Just remember K&N filters = M1 filters. Both made by Champion Labs with the same casing, filter, drain back valve diaphram... on the same assembly line. You pay a hair more for the K&N's 1" tack welded nut and white paint.

I've got about 30 or so UOA's on VQ engines with a bunch of oil brands. M1 still outperforms most, especially for the price. I think people will be a little shocked by the Amsoil results in comparison. Should have them all posted in the next day or so when I'm done transferring them all to jpg and can post them here.
