I have been reading this thread for most of the afternoon. I also read all of the chapters over at BITOG, all of which are a very good read.
Anyway I've noticed that even though the BITOG site says all oils are TOO THICK at startup, most people on this board and that one, stick with 5W- or 10W- oils anyway. Why? It's totally contrary to the entire guide. Also he states and reiterates that going thinner, rather than thicker, is better especially on lower mileage engines. But I tend to see people switch to 0W-40 instead of 0W-30.
Just an observation and I'm bored and there is nobody home to talk to.

I've finally got around to updating the UOA comparison chart with all the new UOA's collected since the last time I did this. I've also started on updating the first page of info. I should have some new stuff posted in a week when I finish the write-up.
Will
More work stuff came up and I have had to travel a lot. I have the new comparison chart done, but am not finished with the new write-up. Hopefully I can find some time to finish this soon.

i used Mobile 0w40 for the first time along with stillen high cappacity oil pan. Occasionally i was getting grinding noise at cold start up. It seemed to be OK if i jerk around the car while i start up lol
Now i have castrol 0w30 for the second time. I really like it, especially the smoother engine sound at WOT.

Is either of you guys in your second change with castrol. I'm going on my third change with mobile one. Haven't experience any noise or extra chatter than normal. Great to have more inputs and reviews on this topic.

Well my first oil sample i done was with mobil one 5w30 and my iron was high. After that I ran the Castrol edge 5w30 but haven't sent it out as yet for a sample still sitting in my room. At the moment I have the Castrol 0w30 car seems a little quieter.

i only consider mobile 0w40 and castrol 0w30 for now since they are the TRUE synthetic oill. Now that i didn't have good experience with mobile 0w40, i'm staying with cstrol 0w30 for now.
Anyone have tried mobil 0w40 diesel oil, or 10w40? It sounds like they could be well used for track.

Actually, the grinding noise that i sometimes get from start up might be because of the plate thing around the oil pick up.
I started to get the noise after Stillen oil pan installation which you are required to enlarge the hole in the plate (oil pick up thing goes through the plate). It may be the the oil pick up thing touching the plate due to not having a larger hole.

Is M1 0W-40, Mobil1 0W-40?
Also, what would be preferred for living up north for the 350Z? I am guessing a synthetic 0W-30 or 0W-40 oil? I guess I will give Mobile 1 0W-40 synthetic or Castrol Syntec 0W-30 a try.
Thank you for the information overload.

The marketing part is that Castrol Edge has been renamed to Edge with Titanium, and the old Syntec is now called Edge with Syntec technology. The 60% longer hp claim most likely marketing too.
The new 5W-30 Titanium is way thinner than 0W-30 German Castrol - 9.8 cSt @ 100C compared to GC's 12.1. The 10W-30 is almost as thick as GC at 11.4 cSt @ 100C. If your engine can handle a thinner oil, I'd try the 10W-30 as it is a much more modern SN formulation than the SL of GC.
Titanium is an antioxidant and antiwear agent, which seems to have replaced molybdenum as a friction modifier.

yeah I wouldn't go with the high mileage bro. Stick with the regular synthetic Im running the castrol edge newer titanium version. I ran the 0w30 gc have the sample sitting on my shelf just haven't found the time to send it out.
