Another side note, we pulled both air filters out of the housings, and there was no additional power gain.

thats wierd there were minor gains in teh 06 and previous. Minimal though but there were . Im guessing the size of the intake and overall setup is preety maxed out.

If I remember correctly we did two runs and the first hp run was the exact same and the second picked up a half a horse power.

Sharif arrives at work next Saturday to discover hundreds of VQ modders with six-packs or imported beer under their arms...

Nice writeup... Good pictures... and excellent work on the conversion.

not to nit pick or anything (i'm here to learn), but u gain 10 whp with the exhaust and another 8 with the test pipes. i haven't really looked into the test pipes cause i was never gonna put them on my car, but most exhaust systems (unless they really sucked) gained about 10 whp on the pre- 07 z's also, so whats so intresting about the results?

The car already puts out an additional 20whp on top of what an 06 puts out.

How's the A/F ratio? Still pretty stable with the extra flow?

Thats a fair question. The baseline numbers that are 20-25whp higher than an 03-06 is really the telling point here. 18whp without any tuning, is also pretty darn good with just test pipes and exhaust, but comparable to what you would expect on a reg VQ35. I guess what surprised me most, was a 10whp gain with an exhaust system that is technically more suited for a forced induction car.

In regards to AF ratio: Unchanged with the exhaust, and .75 points leaner with the test pipes.

Wow-thats 280whp if not more easy on a DJ with only a TD and TP's. Id love to run one of these with bolt-ons down the track, 12's EASY.

So, what else is different on the 07? Are those suspension changes?
About the FI option, makes me wonder if it would be easier just to swap the new GTR's engine in there, make more power and probably have more reliability. sure it will cost more, but I think it will be worth it.

No Suspension changes. The engine is 100% different externally, and according to Nissan, it is 80% changed internally. This is the foundation for all the next gen high performance Nissan sport engines.

Sharif , does it look difficult to do a HR swap on previous models lol. Knowing the Ecu is diff already but the tranny everything else is identical to the 06. i also noticed the clutch feels identical to the 06 but very light compared to the previous models. My 04 was heavy as hell compared to my 06+.

The trans is very different, in terms of external casing, and it also has a very different clutch control mechanism, and slave cylinder. Jeremy is going to let us crack everything open shortly....so we'll see how it looks inside.

Physically putting this motor and trans in a pre 07 woudl be a snap...but getting the ECU to play nice in the CAN network might be a little trickier.

nit picking again

the 07 basically putting out what the pre 07 would be putting out with intake, plenum spacer and mrev. i kinda get the feeling we aren't gonna get any gains with aftermarket intakes since u didn't gain any power from pulling out the filters. so u won't be able to get over 300whp (dynojet) with bolt ons on the hr either, so i could have saved my money and bought a used 04 and done the inake mods to it and not ahve to wait for any form of fi to come out

all of the above is speculation

i'm just bitter, i want 5 million hp w/ bolt ons only

ps
do u have any pics of the new factory tubular headers, hows the collector look?

hehe...a 245whp stock number is actually "higher" than we usually see on a I/E/H/Spacer setup on the older version engine.

Our new technician, Michael, as an 04 G35 with I/E/H/Plenum and laid down 243whp on our dyno last week.
