Default 5 A/T to Sequential Transmission?

Hey guys I have a 06 5 speed automatic 350z Enthu model but I have been getting a little bit bored and want to do something really big. Today I read the new issue of Super Street and saw that JUN shop made another 350z but this time they made it four wheel drive. Still used the VQ engine but the drivetrain and transmission they swapped with a skyline drivetrain.

My Question is where can I find the Hollinger Sequential transmission that they used? Is it even possible to purchase one? What kind of work needs to be done in order to actually swap it? I tried to look for it on the internet just now but couldn't find any website that sold it or had any information on it except for magazines showing other cars with the same transmission. >.< Thanks for any help guys.

Contact Jun. I'd guess it was a one-off custom job.

If the Hollinger is so expensive is there any other sequential transmissions for sale that can be swapped w/ the VQ engine??? Does the ECU have to be swapped w/ a one from a manual 350z? what about the clutch??? does sequential transmissions use a clutch or torque distributer??? I asked this question because I heard from people that real sequential transmissions doesn't use a clutch pedal. Anyways if anyone can answer me these questions it would be greatly appriciated. Sorry I do not have any knowledge about sequential transmissions except for that they shift by pulling the shift **** back and forth. ]

nope, sequential actually has a clutch (electronically controlled I believe) while triptronic is still an AT with the torque converter and other various AT parts.

The Tiptronic transmission is what nofeardude87 described; it is still an AT that the driver has the option to override to gain more control of the gear shifts. More or less like a semi automatic, it was developed by Porsche.

The conventional manual gearbox is prone to human error, as you can mis-shift from 6th directly to 3nd, or even worse from 6th to 2nd, etc. However, a sequential gearbox can only be moved from 3rd to 4th or 4th to 3rd and you cannot mis-shift to 2nd without going through 3rd;motorcycles use sequential gearboxes.

The sequential gearbox for cars were initially developed for Formula One racing, and commonly used for drag racing these days.

Not sure if they make a kit for the Z, but 5Zigen makes a Twin Mode Clutch conversion kit. It basically converts your manual transmission to a sequential.

From what I have read the Twin Mode Clutch system by 5Zigen were designed for Right Hand Drive cars, I may be wrong, but I thought that I read somewhere that it was designed for 5 speed

You better be sitting down when they come back with the pre-installation cost

lol I will be. I saw that HKS also makes both H and Sequential transmissions for Nissans but didn't see one for the 350z. T.T Wished they did.

5zigen looks like 5 speed, and if so would probably slow down the Z with longer gears. I'm not sure exactly how this system works, the description was quite lacking.

I emailed hollinger as well with a couple questions. Hopefully they will reply, if not I might just give them a call to settle this question once and for all. It's something I'd like to do in the future myself... after I go FI at least.
