Default Paddle Shifters

Does anyone know of a kit that would tranform a 350z manual to allowing paddle shifters behind the steering wheel? Just curious.

You can't do it on the MT. You need to have automatic controls for the clutch and the gearbox. A standard manual transmission has neither.

It's possible to do it on the AT but you would need to hack the transmission controls and adjust the programming or add a piggy-back ECU. Someone over at 350ZMotoring added push buttons to his AT without adjusting the software and the signal lag ended up so slow that a regular MT shift could almost be completed before the push button transmission would even begin to shift.

I think I recall that there were upgrades to the BMW that could upgrade the regular MT6 to a SMG wanna-be by replacing the manual clutch with a hydraulic clutch and piggy-backing a CAN-BUS to the gearbox. I also heard that it didn't work that great because it wasn't quite up to par to the actual SMG. In the end, it would have just been cheaper and better to have gotten the car with the SMG instead of trying to turn an MT into an AT.

In my personal opinion, if you're happy with the MT just stick with it and don't try to turn it into an AT. If you're tired of the MT or no longer want the MT, it's better to just trade it in for an AT.

I built a stand alone transmission controller for a Cadilac a while back (http://kptechnologies.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=208).

I looked in to interfacing it with a VQ35 but the transmission setup is not compatible. The Z trannys shift solenoids are all internal, and not very practical to modify.
