Personally I had it done because it is a one time deal (except the oil) and I do not have the necessary tools to complete the job. Plus, I avoided all the things previously mentioned. I was clean afterwards and everything is on record at the dealer so if it all magically drains out and my drivetrain explodes we know who to blame. Besides, you can go to the 100 dollar window on me having been standing under the car with the tech the whole time...

Yeah, I'd watch those guys close too, especially on something like trans and dif fluid.

hmm... how much did all this cost you all together just for the fluids? one of my buddies suggests putting redline everything in my car, so i'm guessing that is going to run me up a little more. what do you think about using redline for all? he says that mobil one is just regular stuff and that redline is the best. i really dont know anything about these fluids.....

I did use Redline for everything except for the motor. Expect to pay 8 dollars a quart for Redline motor oil, tranny oil, gear oil, etc. I am sure you could use Redline for the motor with no problems, I just use Mobil 1 in the motor because of brand loyalty. I have used it for years and love the stuff. Also, it is less expensive as it will run you less than 30 dollars for 6 quarts. Six quarts of Redline would be close to 50 dollars. The tranny and gear oil together ran 60 bucks. Mobil 1 is not just regular stuff. It is one of the best synthetics on the market. Redline is too. The motor oil is changed often enough, to me, not to warrant the price difference. The others are not changed so often so I don't care about the price on those. Just for the heck of it, I am going to put in some Redline power steering fluid soon. Good luck!

Because Mobil 1 gear oil is GL-5. Your tranny calls for GL-4, and will get very angry if you use GL-5.

Check my post here for more detail. I recommend anyone thinking about doing the trans oil read up before blindly believing that GL-5 "is better" than GL-4.

Our gear oil is required to be GL-5 also. Luckily our trannies don't take gear oil as that belongs to the R&P in the rear end. Our transmissions take transmission fluid (yes, GL-4).

"Transmission fluid" is for slushboxes.
Gear oil is a colloquial term which can be used to describe the oil in the manual trans, differentials, or transfer case (if so equipped) of any vehicle.

Oil which is GL-4 is not also GL-5 spec. GL-5 introduced a lot of slick additives which are corrosive to yellow metal parts (ie: the bushings and synchros in your transmission) and will cause premature wear and failure of these parts.

That being said, if anyone has done a drain and fill on their trans, think hard about what kind of oil you used...

Semantics. I think you will see that we have been talking about MTL and MT90 for the trans and it clearly says Tranmission Lubricant. The recommended FLUID for the diff. is clearly called gear oil. Semantics. Who cares.

Both units have a drain pug on the bottom and a fill plug higher up on the side. Use them accordingly.

So how did it drive after these fluid changes? Give us a brief review?

Did the trans shift smoother or any difference at all?

If you are asking me, please notice that this thread is almost a year old. Any review you're getting from me is on the first page. I don't remember the difference by now. Sorry.

just had my first service done...had them do engine, tranny and diff oil too....ended up costing me about 120 bucks

the car does seem to drive a little smoother but that could just all be in the head...

i usually do these things myself but wanted to have that first one documented so it was worth it to me...and i didn't get dirty or have to dispose of any wastes
