Default Transmission not on warranty??

my 03 Z has 35k miles on it. I took the car in because i noticed that 5th and 6th gear are hard to get into, and when in netural, the stick seems to be off centered.

they diagnostics the vehicle, and said it is a problem with the tranny, but it is not under warranty. they said the part of the tranny that was messed up is the "shift boot". they said those exact words. i'm guessing by that they mean the synchros?

anyway, should this be covered on warranty? or is it my fault because i messed it up? and if i have to pay out of pocket, what exactly would need to be replaced?

synchros are part of the powertrain and should be covered under warranty. I'm not sure however what they mean by shift boot. Do they mean there is something along the shift linkage that caused you to screw up the input shaft when you shift? Doesn't make any sense. You could try another dealership.

Powertrain warranty is 60,000 miles or 60 months. Is the shift boot part of the powertrain?

+1, exactly right. You need to go to another dealership and they should take care of it. I could see being the window motor maybe, because of the in service date. But David is right 6 years or 60k. And the boot i not covered due to in service date. You have to get the whole lower console piece to get the shift boot from nissan. It goes up to the ac controls.
