Default HELP- Commuter car problems!

I have had this ongoing problem with my '92 Honda Accord. It started about 4 months ago. Every once in a while, while I was driving, it would completely stall. If I was cruising on the highway at about 70mph and my RPMs about 3-4K they would drop to 0 all the sudden....complete loss of power. Then it would work again. I figured it was a clogged fuel filter. Still put it off...then it started happening all the time, but now I have to wait a good 15-20 mins for it to start again. So I changed the fuel filter but it's still doing it. It stalled on me tonight and I had to have it towed back to my house. Anyway, I am selling it and would rather try to fix it myslef, instead of putting more loot into it.

Any ideas????

Couple of things to check based on the following. If the car starts to loose power while driving on the highway, meaning you press the gas and it doesn't go or sputters I would first check the fuel pump.

If the car is actually shutting off while driving at highway speeds, it sounds like an ignition problem. If it only happens after driving for a while it's likely a heat-soak issue with an ignition component. This may explain why it happened intermitenly for a while. Not sure what type of ignition the 92 accord has, but I'd check there as well.

Good luck

Thanks for the help man! Are you thinking I shoud just replace the ignition...is there a way to test it? Now, it'll fire right up and drive good for about 5-10 mins, based upon how cold the motor is. Then, completely stop running. I agree w/ the heat soak issue.

I doubt this is your problem, but my friend has a 90-92 ish accord, and he had a similar problem on the highway.

He said his battery terminal was loose.

Might want to check it.

checked it, it was secure. After doing some research online it turns out rotaryrocket7 might be onto something with the ignition. There is a mani relay that could be gowing bad. I have to figure out a way to determine that faulty part. Don't feel like having this thing towed again! thanks for the input though.

By the way, are you getting any check engine lights?

When this happens on a Z it's commonly the crank position sensor.

after doing some more research, turns out the early 90's and up have a lot of problems with the main EFI relay. Just ordered one, we'll see!
