Default 373 Gears??

hey guys, Ive had my Z for about 3 weeks. Im new to Import modding and have been with muscle cars my entire life (im 29).

With my mustang I had 373 Gears and it totally transformed the cars speed.

When I raced my cousin in his mustang (hes got 373) he whipped my *** all the way thru 3rd when I started to slowely catch up to him, I still lost bad.

SO after we raced he said " u need to put a gear in that thing".

I told him im not sure if they make that kind of stuff for these cars. So do they make gears for our Z's that make a difference like they do in a mustang?? Do they work the same? Do they ruin the car?

Just totally lost on it and ive tried searching and could not find anything.

THanks guys!

So what does it do for the car? Can u run it with a stock motor? Is it worth it??

Does anyone have any numbers to show the difference it makes by itself? Will it make the car a mid 13 sec car?? Will it do nothing?

Oh forgot to list what kind of Z I own,

2004 Enthu 6MT.

Mods.......FULL TANK OF 93 BABY!

So whats the deal with installing the gears by themselves?? ALso why on that link is there 3.7 and all I hear about is 3.9??

DO they speed up the car? In a mustang or any muscle american car, gears make a world of difference without touching motor, is it the same on the Z??

Does it throw off the speedo? Does it make it lose alot of top speed? Does it make it drink gas like crazy? IS IT EVEN suitable for daily driving??

The 3.7 are actually another Nissan/Infinity made final drive gear. Its basically OEM. The 3.9's are aftermarket.

You will see about a 10% increase in acceleration in each gear. You'll lose some MPG though.

Going to a bigger final drive = better acceleration, lower top speed

Nothing magical about it.

3.9 is not aftermarket. It comes out of an infinity j30.

Never heard of that. The one's advertised on the boards come from 350EVO or Central 20. Maybe they based their design off that, but I dunno.

The didn't design it. The get the gears out of wrecking yards and clean them up. The infiniti J30 has a r200 shortnose Diff with 3.90 gears in it. Hmmm.

As far as I know, the J30 ring gear is the correct diameter, but the pinion shaft is the wrong length. I don't think it will work.

Well I thought he meant aftermarket gear set so I said 3.9, but yes Andy installed the 3.7FD OEM from the awd g35's in his car.
