Default JWT flywheel/cluth nightmare

I wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar experience. I installed the JWT flywheel and clutch at the end of last summer and now about 2,000 miles later (I took it off the road for winter), I am experiencing tons of problems. I heard a rattle at first and took it to a shop to be checked out and they told me it was probably just a loose bolt, so went back to where I had it installed to have them fix the problem since after 2,000 miles it seemed like an error in their workmanship. Today I found out that the flywheel had sheared all the bolts and basically destroyed the clutch and possibly the camshaft. They're saying this is because the the Aluminum flywheel is not compatible with the car since it expands a lot more than steel, which is how the problem came about in the first place. So basically I'm looking at about a $3,000 dollar repair. Has anyone else heard of this with the JWT flywheel, because if its not compatible I would think there would be more cases of it.

*Also I know it's clutch in the title, so I don't get flamed for a typo*

I have my JWT combo in for awhile now and no problems here. What you posted does sound like an installation problem vs. a defect in the product. While a flywheel even worlk if it's not clocked right?

That bull$hit, those flywheels are perfectly fine. It's the installer that messed up.

I know they said they had a problem with someone else who had an aluminum flywheel that expanded and backed the bolts out, but mine expanded I guess and sheared the bolts. So I'm going with the Nismo one now, and not risking it again.

If you are referring to the flywheelbolts then they probably didn't torque them down to spec. Bolt's don't just come off, lol.

yea mine weren't the ones that backed out, my bolts sheared off so they are currently trying to get whats left of them out of the camshaft to salvage that. My father went to check on the car today and said the JWT flywheel was looking pretty warped and messed up. It's possible that they screwed up in the install but there's no way to prove it.

Trust me they installed it incorrectly. The crankshaft might be damaged especially if the flywheel was a bit loose. Some minor vibrations can be absorbed but if it moved quite a bit, you could ruin bearings that way.

Good luck man, I hope everything works out.

I guess it is also possible your flywheel may not of been balanced and produced some wobble loads into the crank??

+1. They should have used some blue loctite on those flywheel bolts. we have never had any flywheel bolts come loose.

Best to have someone work on your car that you are sure knows what they are doing. Unfortunately, many dealers & auto repair places hire mechanics with limited trainning or experience. Just because you are being charged $80 per hour + does not mean you have a qualified tech working on your car.

Yeah, for sure they messed up your Flywheel setup. I have mine for about a few thousand miles with no problems. Even with Nismo clutch setup as well. They guy was BS you bro. Take it somwehere else to have the relair done. You don't want to have them mess up your transmission again.

If your crank bearings are shot due to a faulty install, consider taking legal action. A rebuild will be thousands.

One reason why I'm having my dealer install (and warranty) the work on my integrated clutch/flywheel install, despite having a severely sore bum due to the bill of 9 labor hours.
