Default lighter flywheel question and help

I got an RPS clutch and flywheel installed. I knew the flywheel woudl make noise at idle and it does. But is it normal for the flywheel to make more noise depending on if the car is on a slight slope or not? Sometimes mine rattles pretty loud and sometimes I can barely notice it. Also, I noticed that the car sounds like it's out of gear if I'm driving slow. I have to constantly throw it in first gear at times that I used to leave it in second. The car always sounds out of gear when accelerating in 1st and 2nd unless I have it above 3200 rpms all the time. Is this normal for a lighter flywheel? i'm considering going back to the stock flywheel because I don't feel any performance difference and my car sounds like crap now. Hopefully this is not normal and can be fixed. Thanks for your help guys.

Yes, your lighter single piece flywheel causes this chatter. This flywheel exhibits less inertia, and is more affected by the RPM of the engine. The heavy-two piece OEM flywheel is more difficult to change its inertia (due to friction between the two pieces), therefore it better absorbs each power pulse. Result: quiet.

Correct me if I'm wrong--your RPS flywheel weighs 18lbs, while the OEM weighs 23lbs. That's not a huge difference to make an obvious observation in improved acceleration, but it should still help in throttle response.

Yes, they will make noise up to a certain RPM. They are greatly affected by the current load on the engine too. 6th gear at 1500 rpm--you'll really hear some chatter.

I'd say stay with what you have...It's the price you pay when you mod your Z. You lose some of those nice comforts.

So a lighter flywheel is really not giving me much of a performance improvement at all? I would rather go back to a stock flywheel then. Is there anything wrong with using an RPS clutch with a stock flywheel?

I would hope you are noticing some quicker revs at least! But at 18lbs, it's not too much of an improvement. You should notice a little change though for sure!

Give it a week to get used to the sound....you wont even hear it anymore.

But what have you described sounds very normal. The greater the load (going up hill at low RPM) will cause the sound/vibration to increase.

My new Stillen flywheel is 14.25lbs. I can feel a bit of a difference pulling through each gear. I hear the rattle, but just change your driving habits a touch.. That will rid you of most chatter.
