Default Transmission Upgrades in California

Post Number One
-----------------
This is focusing on the VQ35DE engine, 2006 base model, 6MT. All other models and setups are welcome of course.

I haven't seen a thread on aftermarket transmissions SO I am interested in a thread dedicated to upgrading the stock transmission. Particularly a thread focused on FI setups concerning an appropriate transmission upgrade.

I assume some dedicated posters here will know parts prices, install times and basic costs yadda yadda

Any site recommendations?

Shop recommendations? (anywhere on west coast will do)

I would also suggest posting replies with regards to how well the stock transmission can take hard shifting at 400WHP+. Suggestions and opinions are very welcome, however if you have experienced problems or disasters PLEASE POST

I have also read some guys who boosted to only 350WHP+ and stripped out 3-4 gears in the box within day ONE of their FI install... WHICH MUST SUCK! Also have read of TT or SC setups running <8lbs and rolling ok for 40,000 miles. Clarification here would be superb.

Please direct me if there is a dedicated transmission thread elsewhere.

Thanks!

I would also like to clarify that my dream set up, and thus why I am asking questions regarding transmission upgrades, would have me putting down a solid 600 rwhp.

With this in mind, it's obviously a good decision to not destroy a new transmission (which will have 20,000 miles) therefore any knowledge and info on this important ingredient to a well balanced FI-Z is requested.

Thanks

Searching will show you that 99% of F/I tuned 350Zs run stock trannys.

*BUMP*

Taken from thread: "Stock Motor with forced induction...How badly did you push it?"

1. Turbonetics turbo 9psi, Utec tuned by MRC,Car had 45,000, 500 miles so far and still going, 380rwhp and 420ftlbs.

2. APS TT, FCon Vpro tuned by non other than Sam@GTM ; Over 20k miles boosted, 550rwhp@14psi, Blew at Willow Springs after an entire day and 100 miles of abuse on the track at 14psi and over 20k FI miles (although not all at this high of a power level) Snapped a rod *Blown Engine*

3. GReddy TT, RevUp motor, UTEC tuned by AAM. 469rwhp/434rwtq @ 10psi. BOOM! just after 4,000 miles boosted *Built motor / new FI setup in process *Blown Engine*

4. APS TT 9psi, Tuned by Japtrix, Unichip, 15k miles, 437rwhp 391rwtq, never blew, decided to build motor for more boost+power.

6. Greddy TT@ 9psi ???whp tuned by me, UTEC, 2k miles, not blown yet...

7. Turbonetics @ 8 PSI 380 WHP, out of box reflash, 57,000+ miles, not one issue.

8. JWT TT @10psi 700BB upgraded turbos 460whp,410fltbs,utec 2K+ with it and still going 11.8@118

9. APS ST @10psi 411hp 455tq didnt make it home from Chicago *Blown*

10. PE TT rev-up@11.5 psi 405hp 450tq Fcon, 4 track days, and 94 dragstrip passes @11.9 117 "Forged tuned"

11. Turbonetics 9-10psi 383whp 380ft/lbs SAE on DJ-it did 396/400 actual on a winter day. Tuned with UTEC by AAM on 93 octane, also running AAM RFS, and UTEC. I drove it HARD and it lasted about 20 1/4 passes and blew after 3000 miles! *Blown Engine*

12. Turbonetics 8-9.2psi 323hp and 340tq DD. Tuned with UTEC, AAM RFS, and Stk exhaust driven for 10K miles. Tuned by Forged

13. Turbonetics 8psi 370whp 370tq turbonetics reflash no other mods. Blew up after 24hrs first hard run 3rd and 4th gear pull. Was installed by Evolution Autosports. *Currently tuned by Forged Performance* *Blown Engine*

14. Vortech Supercharger 7psi 366whp 305tq. Tuned by me with SS box. 50k on car, 10k boosted, going strong for over a year now.

15. APS ST installed and tuned at GT Motorsports. Tuned at 8psi 375whp. Mis-shifted during a hard pull going from 4th to 5th but I hit 3rd. I hit about 8500 rpm's at 10psi and bent a few rods. Car is at GTM getting a full build w/ cams. *Blown Engine*

16. Turbonetics and Greddy Twin Turbos: ~400 whp for 16k miles combined. 11k with turbonetics and 5k with greddy. No real issues, turbonetics was tuned by Sharif and Greddy was tuned by Chris Macellero both using UTEC. 35k when installed. 51k now and running strong

17. TN installed by me and GTM, "very modded" 400hp & 390TQ 1500 miles no issues yet. Utec & Tuner, Tuned By Sam@GTM

18. JWT TT tuned at 6.5psi with 371whp & 369tq. Installed/tuned by VRT. Collected 5,000 miles. Minor issue with the revup motor, nothing serious. Currently being corrected by Relentless Autosports and retuning at 8psi.

19. 2005 G35 Sedan Revup Motor (27,000 miles)
100 shot NX nitrous (installed by me) 10000 miles
Turbonetics ST installed by me, tuned by forged(tweaked by me) 8.5 psi360whp/390wq for about 8000 miles.
Greddy TT installed by me, tuned by PerformanceFactory (tweaked by me) 9 psi 406whp/400wtq for about 4000 miles.

20. Turbonetics w/UTEC tuned @9 Psi to 385 WHP @10.0 A/F. Running like a champ for past 5000 miles. This same turbo kit blew another Z's motor before I bought it and installed the overboost pipe. Thanks Brian!
If you are going to go FI just expect to get a new motor eventually. I know it's gonna go one day. Till then full throttle

21. Vortech 9psi 410rwhp,337 trq stock block, 7k miles and running like a champ. My research and this thread proves that 400rwhp / 9-10psi is about the max mark before you need a build motor.
Ok so stock tranny can handle anything im going to throw at it?

Just checking my bases

Time to PM Sam
