Default What the heck is wrong with my tranny?

Today I was cruisin around and went to put it in sixth and it felt like it wasn't grabbing. I took it out of sixth and put it in fifth, still didn't feel right. I slowed down to a stop and wasn't able to put it in any gear. I finally managed to force it into 1st but it felt like the clutch was barely grabbing. I could only bring it to a slow roll. When I put it in nuetral and let off the clutch the car died like it was still in gear. I then forced it into reverse to see if I could do it. I was able to get it in reverse and it worked.

Now I can get into 1st-4th just fine, but when I put it in 5th and 6th it has no feeling to it and then I have to play with the tranny for awhile just to get back into 1st again. It seems like when I put it in 5th or 6th I lose all my gears. So now the car is parked and I only have 1st-4th and no reverse. Is my tranny toast or can it be fixed.

your trans. could be toast or it could be a clutch spring.

Can't check the fluids right now. Was kind of in a rush and didn't have time and now I'm no where near the car. First thing tomorrow I'll check it out and see if its something stupid or something I can take care of. I will probably run it to mossy on monday if I can't figure it out.

Okay. I checked the clutch fluid. It was a little low, but not below the low line. I added some fluid. The tranny is still doing this.

I took it down the street to see if I could tell anything else. One the way back I started to feel a strong vibration on the stick. I have no idea whats going on.

To check if the clutch is slipping put it in 6th gear (if you can) and gun it from 60mph or so, if the engine revs but the car doesnt accelerate, its your clutch.

I know 03's have the first gen trannys that have a lot of problems. Its too bad that you just passed your 60k mile warranty.

I wish i could be more help but I havent had any personal experience with these trannys and have not had the chance to loook at the insides of one first hand. If i recall correctly from reading other posts, the first gen trannys had weak top gear synchros which have been substantially beefed up with later models.

I can't get it into 6th any more. Its completely gone. But when I put it in 3rd from a stand still and let out the clutch the car dies. I'm guessing that means my clutch is still good. I'm pretty sure the clutch is good. It has never slipped. My guess is that its the synchros. My 5th grinds alot now when I shift into it.

Transmission is toast. West Covina Nissan has the car right now. Getting a new tranny in a day or 2.
