Dweeb's Ti Quick Shifter Guinea Pig - My Impressions
Hey all,
I just got back from some spirited, and not so spirited driving with my new Ti shifter, installed by dweeb.
My impressions after the quick test drive:
At first, I was concerned with a slight noise coming from the shifter. It sounded like something was dragging, metal being dragged, kind of like a stuck brake caliper, kind of like static on an old transistor radio. It was evident at low revs in low gears when not under acceleration. Under acceleration in all gears and when holding the revs around 4000 the sound vanished. When I got back to the garage dweeb got in and I let him listen to the sound. He kind of chuckled at me (thanks dweeb ) and told me that the sound was normal and was coming from the transmission. Since the shifter is solid, and the bushings have been removed, the sounds of the gears and transmitted through the shifter. Not a loud noise by any stretch of the imagination, just different. With the windows down the sound is drowned out by wind noise, can't hear it at all.
As far as feel, the shift is GREAT!!! Quick and short. It just pops from gear to gear! AWESOME!!
I was beginning to get some fairly un-nerving rattling from the STOCK shifter at high revs but, with the new shifter, ABSOLUTLEY NO RATTLING, PERIOD. The shifter is firm and the gates, a touch notchy, but smooth. Just to my liking!
On the drive home, and in city driving, the shifter performed very well. Solid. Quick. Just what I expected it to be. There was an ever so slight vibration/humm in 6th @ ~ 2500 rpm but nothing more than what was there with the stock shifter.
I didn't experience any rattling or major vibrations of any kind.
In my opinion, dweeb has done a fantastic job. I think I'm going to go outside now and play.
If anyone has any questions at all, please feel free to post and I will answer to the best of my ability.
Dweeb is a stand-up guy. Loves his cars. Thanks for developing this great product!
Cheers!
