Just wondering what physically occurs inside the transmission/rear end when you hold the break down on an automatic and get the rpm's up to like 3000 so the boost comes in at about 4 psi when you launch. How detremental is this to the AT? is it something thats ok to do every once in a while at the drag strip to put down a good time?

The first thing it will do is heat up the transmission oil by spinning the torque converter and heat is a big factor in component failure.

 

Dont do it for extended periods, save it for the track

 

yeah I planned on just trying it a couple of runs next time I go to the drag strip so I can see what 1/4 time the car is actually capable of

 

Just get an upgraded torque converter and tranny cooler and you'll be good to go.

 

I've heard that the TQ converter can negatively impact the driveability of the car under normal driving conditions. Is this true? and to what extent?
