That's the first strut brace I've seen with matching paint. Looks good with the cover.

Unhappy Need some advice....

I installed mine Sat. The wire that attaches to the left side of the intake manifold (passenger side), well, while I was tightening it, the bolt broke off with the threaded portion still in the hole.

So, I just bolted the wire to the piece behind it. It seems to work just fine....just curious if I have voided any enhancement the kit provides by using a different mounting point?

None. Any clean metal grounding point is fine.

Funny you say that. I broke one off inside the hole too. It was the top bolt of the bracket that holds the rubber hood sensor down. You have to remove the bracket to get to the main ground bolt. When I was putting it back in.......CRACK. No biggie though. The one remaining bolt holds it nice and tight.

Haha,

Congrats on the kit Doc.

We should start a sub-culture for those who broke off a screw while installing the grounding kits.. seems like there's hundreds of em.

Wheww I thought I was the only one dumb enough to break a bolt off. I broke the one that goes in the very back, directly behind the engine. I was so pissed. Had to drill into the leftover bolt and remove it, then I had to use a dirty bolt I had lying around. =)

That is SOOOO FUNNY! Here I am cursing myself when I broke that thing and I also dropped a bolt down onto the plastic cover thingy and it was next to impossible to get to. I was telling myself I was stupid to do this myself and that I should have had someone with some under the hood experience do it etc. and I find that you guys all did the same thing!

I feel MUCH better now!

Default Hey Doc!

Hey Doc,

Looks great! Thanks for the review. You guys are great!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Still can't believe you guys are breaking bolts though. These are 8.8 solid steel bolts. Lighten up on the torque. ;p

I have installed several kits now but I have been using one of the smaller Craftsman rachets and open-end wrenches. Can't get much torque from these. I guess I'm just not as strong. ;p

the threads its going into are aluminum, or am I thinking of the wrong place?

How thick are these bolts that everyone is breaking off? Are they really that brittle? Makes me leary about the modifcation even though the dyno in Turbo magazine shows a peak hp gain of 4.8 at 5100rpm on the Z.

I am a mere mortal of a man but these bolts they break like butter (Arnold Swartzenneger voice)

J/K my break was from unecassary over torque. Wanted it tight. After the first break you learn hehe

I only broke one. Break two that's bad lol.

I don't think it was the bolt but instead I think I had it in a little crooked and was tightening it like that when it broke. It was only like half way in at the time.

It was the one in this pic. It was really hard to get to since it sits behind the hood sensor bracket. The arrows show how it sits behind this metal strip that made wrench access tough.

BTW, what does the hood sensor do......and don't say, "It senses the hood"!

I believe that is part of the alarm system for the Z. That's the sensor to detect the act of "popping" the hood to disconnect the battery, prior to breaking into the car . Correct me if I am wrong.

So the bolts break when tightening and not loosening them. That's good to know for those who plan to do the modification.
My first thought was that Nissan put on some kind of thread locking compound that made them difficult to remove without breaking.

No, it was definitely when I was trying to put it back in and like I said, I think it was my fault and not the bolt. It was hard to get it in straight and I think that is what did it.

The worst part of it was that I was all by myself and I didn't have a scrub nurse to yell at and blame it on!

Yeah Bonz it's for alarm activation and warning lights on the dash if left open that's all.

I have a second one now with my aftermarket alarm.

To me that was the hardest part.

I want to also add that I have avoided painting the manifold cover part of my car because I didn't like the looks but your car it really looks nice.

Here is mine, just the bar and top panels.

http://home.attbi.com/~wegetourmail/...ID-645515.html

Think I will leave that part black. Just wanted to compliment your paint job.
