Default Popping exhaust and rattling tranny?

(04 Base)

i just came back from droping of this girl from a date and decided to do some hard pulls on the pretty much empty 22 East.

when i got home, pulled into my garage, and was about to turn off the ingnition i heard rattling coming from my ?transmission? then it went away a little after. so i decide to give it a coule revs to make sure it wasn't the engine and i noticed my stock exhaust popping and the engine was revving down. i thought is was a little weird for a stock exhaust to pop. i thought nothing much of it so i trunned off the ignition and heard a rattle, this i have searched and found that it is normal.

so my questions are, is it normal for stock exhaust system to pop? and does tranny rattle at idle for a bit after hard pulls?

sorry for the long post.

As far as the rattle goes, yeah, I guess it is normal. I have the same thing and I was concerned at first. I did some searching and many people report the same thing and turns out I just have to live with it. I tried the clutch test where I turned the engine off with the clutch pressed in and sure enough, the rattle did not occur as many stated.

As for popping exhaust, if I think it is what it is, the pops you hear are from unburnt fuel making it into the exhaust and igniting which produces that pop. Not sure if it is normal but that's where it comes from. This is usually not that great for your cats, if you have them. It may cause them to wear out prematurely. You may be running slightly rich which may be responsible for those pops. What may cause you to run slightly rich? Maybe your O2 sensor is getting a little flaky or your MAF may need some cleaning.

thank you for your input Ziggy, much appreciated. i have also searched the rattle when ignition shut off, this is normal as i have double checked with Tim at WCN. Tim also told me that the slight popping of the exhaust is also normal, but i will look into your thoughts of why this might have happened.

any more input from anyone else is much appreciated.
