Just make sure you get that taken care of before you hit the 60k mark...I have the extended warranty through nissan and they told me that the syncro is not covered by the extended warranty so now I am about to buy some parts and as soon as I get a free weekend, I will be doing the work myself

I have an 05 that occasionally grinds into fifth if you shift quickly. It doesnt matter how long you have the clutch engaged for either, with the clutch all the way down, shifting from fourth to fifth quickly it always grids but goes in. I'm guessing my syncros in fifth are going out. Anybody else have this problem?

I see posts all over saying that all z's are covered under warranty still unless wrecked or something. I have an 03 track edition and I didnt think I had a warranty left. Is it possible to end in a certain month or as long as it is before 08 i still have a warranty? The reason i ask is because my 3rd gear grinds when shifting aggressively, which through searching know its my synchro. What to do? Thanks!

Re-read this thread. Searching, as clipso instructed works too.

I had searched before but assumed there was a chance that it could be up, but from re-reading this post all im getting out of it is that i have warranty since I am at 32k miles. Thanks!

No offense, but ANY scrap of common sense should tell you the answer.

I just took mine into the dealer because when shifting into 5th gear it grinded but when i took it for a ride with the mechanic he couldnt feel it. The service guys said that they would keep it over night just to see if they can get it to grind in the morning.
They're also saying that if it is a syncro they might just replace that!!! They say if they feel the grind they have to take the tranny apart, and if nothing inside looks bad then they put it back together and i have to pay for diagnostics!!
They dont seem very willing to replace my trans because apparently they have to send out the faulty parts to nissan and if they're fine then they get charged for the parts... is this true?
Can anyone shine some light on this for me?

Hello,
This happened to me too, although it was in my 3rd gear. Unless it's sooper obvious, they'll try to weazle their way out of it. What I did:
1. Ask for the service manager
2. Tell the service manager that this is a well documented issue with the syncros in the '03 trans's.
3. If he still doesn't budge, make sure that the 5th gear syncro grinding is sooper obvious.. when you take it back..
4. They will not replace just the syncro, that's b.s.

Ive talked to the service manager and ive made it clear the 03's are notorious for the transmission issues. They cant seem to budge at all... They keep telling me that they cant duplicate the problem and theres not much they can do.
Also, my complaint was primarily about 5th gear but in the area the dealership is in it is VERY rare that you can get over about 30-35 mph.
And lastely when i took a ride with the mechanic it seemed like he couldnt drive a Manual transmission for **** as he was constantly choking it in 1st and held down the clutch constantly even when sitting at a red light or stop sign... Im getting worried that my car is going to get back to me more messed up then when i brought it to them. I cant tell them that though as they will only spoon feed me bull sh*t about how the guy has been a nissan tech for over 20 years...
If you were to write out a script of some sort i could use to persuade them that'd be great
One question, the grinding that you guys got, could you mostly HEAR it or FEEL it?

Hello,
I understand your frustration. It's my understanding that they still have the car. Maybe it's best to just kick back and wait for their decision. Hope for the best. Fight the battle then, if it needs to be fought.

They do still have it but they called today and said the mechanic took it for a ride again and couldnt feel anything. So i told them to test it out atleast one more time...
Again, did you mostly Hear or Feel the grinding when it was going into gear? Was there a loud grind at all?
By the way, thanks for all your help!
