It is common, mine does it too...It needs a new transmission, but Nissan wouldn't replace mine because I couldn't make it grind for them

In most cases..it is pretty common with 03s and 04s...as long as you are under 5 years or 60,000 miles, it is covered under warranty.

If you ask the dealer, make sure to ask about transmission with part#32010-CD009. It is a newer model, that Nissan doesn't use unless requested...and apparently is upgraded and much less likely to fail like the original transmission

Hello,

You have less than 60k on the car, correct? If so, go to the dealership. They will replace the trans, not the syncro. For me ('03 Track), they not only replaced the trans, but also gave me a new clutch disc.

Hello,

On '03, with less than 60k miles you shouldn't have to get used to it. This issue has actually been covered in many threads and is pretty common knowledge in this community. Nissan has been aware of this issue for a long time now. My trans was replaced almost 2 years ago now.

You're welcome, and good luck. After the dealer replaced my trans, I immediately went f/i.. ahah.. In fact, if you're going f/i after the trans is replaced, and it's going to be past 60k shortly thereafter, you may want to have the dealership put in the aftermarket clutch of your choice. They will do it, and won't charge you labor. This will save you money/time in the long run as you won't have to pay a shop, or spend the time to do it yourself.

Buy a used trans from an '04.5-06. You can pick them up pretty cheap in the classified section usually, and it will most likely be less than buying a new syncro and having to pay the labor for a trans shop.

EDIT for punctuation
