Default NISSAN 4.083 Ring And Pinion ???

I just saw this set and in the description it says 3.7? But it is listed as 4.0 ?

Anyone knows if this is indeed a 4.0? And will it work with a Quaife diff in 07 6mt ?

http://www.mynismo.com/products/?id=6135

http://www.mynismo.com/categories/?id=2280 on this page you can see the 3.7 and the 4.0

I'm sure it's a misprint. They probably meant 3.7.

It's the ring and pinion from a 1997-1998 240sx. It has the same final drive model (R200V) as our car but it has a 4.083 final drive ratio. Pretty slick, I will definitely be running one of these with my motor setup if it fits.

That is pretty damn sick. Why didn't know we know about this before?

No one, as far as I know, has installed it yet on a Z and with that said no one knows for sure if it will fit.

In case you weren't aware, 4.083 is a pretty high final drive ratio. The acceleration would be great, but it would def. not be the most highway friendly setup.

yes, but it's almost a 3.9, and 3.9s are just too hard to get... also with HRs redline it would be fine for me.

If you use that mentality then a 3.9 is almost a 3.7, and a 3.7 is almost a 3.5, so why not just stay stock? Redline aside the car will be at a higher RPM while cruising at highway speeds. Which is horrible for gas mileage. In addition, if you have a loud exhaust that could get quite annoying after time. I hope you don't just go from idle to redline with no stops in between every time your in your car.

this is a post from someone else...

" Highway cruising & RPM's - On the drive up to Cincy with stock 3.5 gear......ave. 80 mph, 3k rpm at 80, 27.9 mpg. Drive back home with the 3.9 gear: ave. 81 mph, 3300 rpm at 80, 26.1 mpg. I lost about 2 mpg on a 100 mile trip - not bad, very acceptable. As if I bought the Z for it's mileage - ha! The difference in rpm's at various speeds has been well-documented on various posts. At 80 with the 3.9, rpm's raise 300. "

so with 4.0 i'll be @ 3400-3500 ? that's ok with me.

There are a couple of tuner Zs in japan that are running 4.1 and 4.3 final drive gears! Where they get them from, I have no clue..

I'd be willing to try this 4.083 gear if it fits.

I am sure they are 'on track' only

seems pretty cool. 3k @ 80 is too much, since my 'cruising' speed is around 100... which puts me closer to 4k.

I have no clue, the specs (tire size, width, etc) from the car you posted could be completely different then your car's specs and that would make a big difference.

I've had my suspicions that just about anything from the R200(V) diff and similar could work with little to no modifications because Nissan is rampant with the part sharing and items such as differentials haven't radically changed in the last 20 years. There's a lot of knowledge we can pick up from the S13-5 guys since they've been experimenting with FD gearing swaps for years. They also run different tire diameters and most of them can rev their engine to 9k rpm, so shorter gearing isn't a huge drawback. Our rev limiters are still fairly short compared to those on the built SR's and KA's.

3.692 was used in the 96-01 Q as well as the FX; 3.538 and the 3.1xx was in the Q as well; J30 used the 3.917; NA 300ZX's have the 4.083; there's also a 4.636. I think given the proper research and part sourcing from a junkyard, a lot could be learned about gearing for the Z/G.

There was some variation in the axle stubs, partially become used an open diff or VLSD and variations between the vehicles. I'm still learning about all of it so I'm not sure what the proper correlations are. Companion flanges and axle stubs tend to be the biggest issue between variations of the R200(V), all the gears are 200 mm in diameter and most are the same thickness, but you need to address the LSD when its not.

Lol, I was thinking about installing one of these right underneath my rear strut bar.

I am not trying to talk you out of this mod at all, because you never asked me if I think you should get it or not. I am just giving you information that hopefully you would render helpful.

Have you seen this webpage yet?

It's not the answer to all your questions but it helps.

I'm glad you like this stuff ! this would also look quite nice next to the 'table

Anyway, i think i might go for the 4.0 gears and the quaife diff. I think with some good brakes and a-arms it would make a nice weekend track car.

I'll be back for some seats too $$$ !!!
