Default Changing Transimission and diff fluid.

Ok so Nissan recommends using 2.9L GL4 75w-85 or 75w-90 for the transmission and 1.4L GL5 80w-90 for the differential. I want to change to Motul fluid. When changing to Motul would it be best to stick with those ratings? Would it be bad to use the GL4 in the rear diff? Also on www.mynismo.com they recommend using friction modifier I am not sure what it is because I don't see it on there site?

Thanks guys!

Tranny uses Motul Gear 300V 75W-90 100% Synthetic.

The differential depends on what kind you have?

If its a clutch style like my Nismo Differential use: Motul 90PA limited-Slip Differential 2 Liter already has (friction modifier) additives in it and youll use about 85% of the bottle and 5% to flush old fluid out.

If its a non clutch style gear box youll use the Motul Gear 300V 75W-90 100% Synthetic for tranny and differential.

I have the stock Viscous LSD. Also I heard not to put GL5 in the tranny but they recommend it for the diff? It's ok to run 75w-90 when Nissan recommends 80w-90?

Don't run a GL4 gear oil in the diff. It needs a GL5 for hypoid gear use. The oils are not backwards compatible, so do not use a GL5 oil in the tranny unless it is also GL4 spec. There's a reason the manual states what it does, just stick to it.

I have Motul oil in both Tranny and Rear end. I will change out the tranny oil for sure. Ever since I put it in, when it's cold out (winter time) it whines like a school girl until warm and I also get a little grind going into second gear. Hopefully I'm the only one since this is supposed to be "great stuff". Going back to OEM.

Tranny - 75w90 GL-4. Took about 3.75 qts.
Diff - 75w90 GL-5. Took just under 2 qts.

Running Amsoil in both.

Tranny feels good. Still whines up through 3rd gear like it did when it was new (syncros).
Less notchy than oem, but still a little notchy until fully warmed up. Then it's like a hot knife through butter~ :-)
