My 07 had the pedal start getting soft around 5900-6000 miles, only after driving for a decent distance (say 10+ miles) on the freeway, without shifting.
When it would happen, the pedal would loose pressure for the only the top half of the travel or so, but it'd still be ok to do. I could pump the pedal a few times and it'd come back and work normally again. However, once the pedal would come back, I could rip through the gears and the clutch would hold just fine.
I had the car in to the Nissan dealer a little over a week ago and Nissan techline told them to replace the slave cylinder. I believe they bleed the fluid at the same time because I mentioned that as well. Though I forgot to ask and confirm they did that.
Then two days ago on the way home (~300 miles later) it went completely to the floor and no matter what I did, it never came back. The clutch would still BARELY engage and disengage, but RIGHT off the floor. But, it got so bad that I had to turn the car off to get it to go into first, then start it back up to get moving. At this point even the shifts were very clunky, so I had to let the rpms match up to get it to shift smoothly. If I wasn't so close to home by this point, I would have pulled over and had my friend pick me up with his trailer, but I was so close I figured I'd just limp it home.
I just got the part in stock at my work and after looking at it, I'm wondering how soon it'll be until Nissan completely redesigns the whole part. It's pretty scary looking....

Also, while searching for more info on this "issue" I noticed some people saying the parts were on backorder, not available, etc....
The slave cylinder/throwout bearing, clutch/pressure plate and even the transmission are readily available through Nissan Motor Co. (The one shown above I had overnighted for my car) The only part currently not available (backorder) is the master cylinder.
My question for the other 07 people with this issue... was it so bad that your car wasn't drivable or could you still drive it, just with the sticky pedal annoyance?

Apparently there is a revised slave cylinder... When my dealership went to order the whole setup for my car (clutch/flywheel/pressure plate/slave cylinder) they told me the new slave was back ordered but everything else was on the way... So I'm still waiting to hear from the dealership on this one...

The other section of the slave is readily available as well and there are no updates/changes available on that part either. I don't know where your dealer got that information because everything in my system shows the two "standard" parts. No updates, revisions, changes, tsb's, etc.... The throwout bearing portion ships from a warehouse in Smyrna, Tn and the second part ships from Sacramento, CA (at least that's the closest warehouse to us with stock on that part).
306A1-JK40A and 306A2-JK40A right?

sorry for the ignorance, but i don't really know to much about how a slave cylinder functions, so can u explain why it's "scary" looking? i'm getting the impression that ur saying the design of the slave cylinder is the reason we're having this problem, can u specify what part of it is pooly designed? what would be the "ideal" (if there is such a thing) design?

Even though it's a completely new design for Nissan (slave and throwout bearing as one unit) I'm not too worried about that because it's a common design on other vehicles and seems to hold up for them just fine...

i've always hated this design (throwout bearing/slave cyl.) because its such a pain in the *** to replace. oh and the damn things are always made out of plastic. i prefer the slave cyl. that are on the outside of the transmission..

They are also replacing my flywheel, clutch and pressure plate. Did they change any of that for you?

It may or may not be a design flaw, but I'm not the right person to say if it is or not. It's just my opinion on the materials. I'm not a mechanical engineer or anything either, I'm just a parts guy...

My car hasn't been torn apart yet so I'm not sure if the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate are going to be replaced at the same time. They were still grabbing fine until the pedal dropped, so I don't think anything is wrong with them, but I did ask them to look at everything once the tranny came off, to verify everything still looks ok.
my 07 has been at the stealership for 2 weeks waiting on the part because it has been on back order. Does anyone know if the trans fluid is still GL-4 in the 07's? i had wanted to put some Redline MT-90 in mine since the transmission needs to be removed for the slave to be replaced.

Justin:
I took my car into the dealership on the 10th and that's when they talked to the Nissan Tech line (and told me there was a revised slave but there were going to change everything). On the 14th (day I was scheduled to drop off the car originally) I got a call from the service department saying one of the parts was on back order, I asked what and was told it was the revised slave cylinder.
Today I called to check in with them and was told the parts had finally arrived. I scheduled the swap for Tuesday (28th). Maybe the problem is further than the slave? Faulty pressure plate?
my 06 started having these problems about a month ago. I only drive the thing once a week now, but i'm going to take it to the dealership this weekend for them to duplicate it with me in the car. my car has 16k on it. i'm not going to let them keep my car while i wait for the part either.... i can't stand that!!!! i'll drop it off when they have all the parts ready.

And I'll definitely let you know, got a lengthy clutch break in to go through, maybe I'll have a go at the track in September.
