Need help 8.8:1 and wont start
Ok heres whats going on, I hope s/o can help.So my first post (so nissan wont warrenty my Z) for the full story.
Well nissan finally put the engine together and in the car.
Problem is from what I understand, it starts but will not stay running. They told me it started, smoked a lot and died.
It has no form of forced induction right now and has stock computer.
The checked the timing a few times and said it's dead on. It has fuel, spark, and air. The engine is 8.8:1 compression. Nissan did a compression test and it came back with 130psi on 4 cyl, 135psi, and 145psi in the other.
I was told from a few tunner/350z specialist that it should start and idel fine, it just wont have much power.
The mechanic says that it will not run with no turbo on it, at idle the turbo really is not doing anything then is it?
Any one know of a Z with such low compression that has been driven or even started the engine with no forced induction on it?
Any idea on what could be wrong or something it needs to be drivable?
Thanks for any info
If it starts and dies there must be something else going on.. Have you checked for vacuum leaks.. To simply say a low compression motor wont start without turbos is plain stupid and that is to be expected from most Nissan Technicians. Yes it will have less power so you may need to have the idle raised somehow to keep it running and that could be your problem being that you only have the stock ecu controlling it.. You shouldnt have taken it to a Nissan Dealer because they are all FTL.... Oh, unless its West Covin or Performance Nissan.
+1....
the car should easily idle and start with stock injectors, stock fuel pump, and simply a low comp shortblock. If they can't figure it out, we can arrange to bring the car here, and we'll get it working for you.

thanks guys. nissan approved for another $2500 in labor to tear the engine down and inspect the block. I am going to see if they can put that towards the bill and give me my car back. I just hope there is nothing major wrong with it. I have a utec on the way as well.
