Default Strange Question - Intake

Does anyone know (or happen to have an engine they can check on) if the intake can be installed on the engine backward? That is, 180deg from the way it is now?

Thanks.

Maybe I am dumb...

Assuming the engine is just sitting on a stand. Is the bolt pattern on the intake symetrical such that it can be mounted on the engine backward?

I have a VQ35 installed in my DeLorean. It runs nice, but I'd like to add forced induction. One of the ideas that I wanted to investigate was to install the Stillen super charger (the one that replaces the intake), but I do not have the clearance in front of the motor for the pulley system.

My thought was, if I could mount the supercharger such that the pulley is over the transmission, I could rig up a drive system on the back of the motor where I have more space to work with.

i love how everybody started calling this guy a dumbass when they didn't even know what he needed the info for. then he goes and posts his vq powered delorean

thats pretty sweet, more pics? whole car maybe? is it fwd or rwd, i'm guessing fwd since the engine is mounted so far forward. never looked into deloreans, the only thing i know about them is that its in back to the future

did u do the swap urself?

Thanks for the respect!

You can see more photos Here

I took a VQ35 from a 2002 Altima, and "dumbed it down" to run on a 1996 Maxima ECU (the VQ35 ECU was too complex for me). It ran great with the FWD intake, but was too high to fit the engine cover on so I swapped it out for the 350Z intake (I think it is the 300Hp version). I lost a noticable amount of low end performance with the new intake which got me thinking about doing some forced induction.

My friend and I did this install ourselves, We figure it was about 400 man hours of labor for everything.

The engine is in the BACK. and it is a RWD car. For this project, I mated it to a Porsche 915 transmission.

A supercharger is going to be tough to accomodate unless you can position the engine further forward, but probably moves your shifter, blah, blah, blah. You've probably already thought all this stuff out, so good luck.

I'm putting a VQ into my Datsun 510 & since I want the engine as far back in the engine bay (the curve of the stock intake after the throttle body gets in the way) I'll be fabricating a custom intake mani, maybe even itb's. It seems like you have, or at least know someone with some fabrication skills, so I'd say a custom manifold will work great for you if you use turbos. You could also custom fab a lower plenum that will allow you to bolt on the Stillen SC reversed & try to do the custom pulley thing.

You may want to do a little more research on the Stillen SC's though, it seems most people aren't getting the results one would hope. I think you could probably relocate a Vortech SC (or similar brand/setup) & stick with the stock mani with more easy & better results.

Thanks for the tip...

I like the Stillen setup because of the integrated intercooler. But, if it's not going to work--- whats the point?

Because I have no power steering, I was considering trying to mount a pro-charger in that spot here (not sure if it is the same spot on the Maxima as it is on the 350z), and then just do the plumbing and intercooler up to the intake. I still dont know if I should stick with this intake, or buy one of the high $$ "performance" ones (Kinetics, or something?). Then, there is the option of making my own.

Thanks again for the advice.

What an awesome engine swap. Good job to everyone who gave you a hard time... how great is that.

You should post some pictures of the whole car with a farther away shot of the engine bay so we can see how it really fits in there overall.
