Default BAD 1/8 mile # help

I have a 2006 base w/ Megan Testpipes, Borla exhaust, AEM intake(fabricated to short ram). I droped my spare and my sub box. I dropped my tire pressure to 15psi. I am on a 275/35/19 kDW. Also took out my fender well by left front tire so i would get colder air. First pass i launced at 3000 rpm.... Spann like a ***** and turned in a ****ty 9.78. Second pass i try launching at 2500 rpm. Still spin and turn in a ****ty 9.67. So drop down to launce at around 2000. I still spinn and turn in a 9.58. So im getting better each time... So i stage again and launch at about 1500, which puts me at a best of 9.48... After that i do about 2 more passes and i cant get better then a 9.48. So i have my buddy drive me car. He has more experience dragracing. He drives a build TA with around 450whp. He runs a 8.1. He cant get a better time then 9.41 after about 4 runs.

My goal was to get in the high 8s. Because thats what i see alot of other people turning in on even stock cars... can anyone make fun of me and tell me what im doing wrong??? besides me grammar skills...

Any info would be greatly appriciated.

thx

Lars

A time slip would be helpful. Can you scan and post?

well first of all this goes in the drag racing forum

second, 15 psi is way to low for street tires, especially 19's, going that low only helps with drag radials and slicks

are u dropping the clutch or slipping the clutch? you should be slipping it, but not to much.

its all in the launch, and like u said, 2.34 is horrible

I'd still launch at 2500, but try slipping the clutch. You'll get better as time goes on. You should not have to lower your rpm's though. I'd keep tire psi at around 25.

I run consistent 8.4s to 9.1s any slower than that and your doing it wrong. I found my biggest problem was coming out of 1st and going into 2nd. If you jam the gear like you would on the street you will break loose and fight 2nd gear half way down the track. You have to work the clutch and more of a slow shift from 1st to 2nd to preven you from breaking loose. Stay out of the water pit unless you plan on cooking your tires for a bit, or your 60ft will suffer from it. Over and above, on street tires dont look to get so aggressive off the line. I know a good jump is where it is at, but pushing it too hard results in less horsepower on the ground than if you took it easier out of the hole with no wheel spin. All else fails, drop that clutch at 3000rpms+ in 2nd gear. Takes practice, my first run at my local 8th mile track was a 9.90 so dont feel bad.

u do need a burn out to clean the tires of loose debri, and the waterbox helps u do that with out wheel hop. and our cars don't have nearly enought power with anything na for launching in second to be any kind of benefit.

mods, please move this to the drag race forum
