Default My 2007 350Z Clutch Problem

I've been through all the other threads on the subject but thought I'd start my own to document the process, hopefully helping others who may get it.

Last Sunday my clutch started sinking, I wasn't driving it hard and the temp was in the 90's. By the time I got home I had about 2 inches of travel off the floor and was difficult to get in and out of gear. Let it sit overnight, next morning went out to give it a shot, no dice, pedal still on the floor and was impossible to get it in gear. Called up the Dealer and they flat bedded it back.

Service manager calls today and says that the tech can't keep pressure in the clutch. It will hold for a bit but apparently there is a leak because it will revert back to none. Since they have no idea what is causing this they are getting a hold of nissan tech headquarters for assistance. Don't know what that means but at least they are giving me a rental to drive in the meantime, hopefully its not some weak *** 4 banger. I miss my Z!

I'll let everyone know how this turns out. Hopefull smooth and not recurring!

Pray for me my Z brethren!

Sorry to hear that, I hope they get it fixed.

It seems like Nissan can't get anything right the first time around these days

Sarg, I noticed you are from Missouri, not sure if you are around the STL area, but just wondering what dealership you are taking it to.

Thanks,
Todd

jealosy will get you nowhere

anyway to those with an intelligent contribution...

Takin it to Bommaritto in north St. Louis. The only dealer in MO with a Nissan cert so I hope they figure it out quick. Havin a great experience with them so far. Stay away from Suntrup Nissan in South County, they do suck.

Funny thing. The chick that picked me up from the car rental had someone earlier that day who has his 07 Z in for clutch failure. took his to Suntrup for the second time since they didn't fix it right the first time. Man this looks like its gonna be a recall or something.

Same thing happened to my 2007 except I drove it to the point the clutch shut down and I couldnt shift. Its the assist cylinder. I just had mine replaced. Its a problem with 07s Nissan is working on. Some Nissan Corp. memo was sent out in June from what I was told about this very issue.

Problem is resolved for now with a few hitches.

The problem was indeed the "assist or slave" cylinder. Although the tech didn't intill a whole lot of confidence because it seemed as though this might end up happening again or become a recall. He mentioned that a redigned part may be released soon so that us with the replacements or people who have this issue develop will get this new part. Apparently there is a Nissan bulletin concerning this issue.
The clutch and tranny in general seems alot smoother than before for sure. It must have been 'iffy' from the start as it feels soooo much better, less notchy and clunky, much easier going into 1st and 2nd. I just hope it stays that way. Any problem that can 'strand' me somewhere is worrysome.

Glad to have my baby back!

I haven't had the problem yet with my cluth sinking, but the cluth definitely seems odd. I have almost 5k miles on the car, this should be plenty of time to "adjust" to the way the cluth is and most of the time my shifts are still horrible. From a dead stop taking off in first seems unpredictable, I can give rev it relatively high and take off with no problems, but I dont prefer to do that, I like keeping the RPM's low and having a smooth take off. It seems sometimes keeping the RPM's low the cluth will grab fine with no issues. At other times, the car starts jumping and I have even killed it a few times.

Could just be your technique. Usually I will let out the clutch slowly till the rpms start to dip then give it a decent amount of throttle while smoothly letting out the clutch the rest of the way, definitley takes technique to drive this car smoothly. Since its a sports car I imagine this is normal as it is fine when I do spirited launches and shifting.

you also mentioned a leak in the beggining was that part of the "assist cylinder" problem? my clutch just failed on me too. i took it to the dealership i believe i have the same issue but as my car is getting onto the flatbed i notice a puddle of fluid, i checked the fluid resovoir and the darn thing was dry as a bone. i just dont know if the leak is related to the assist cylinder problem.

Amazing....

I have been having the same problem..... and my Title is almost the same. I decided to write mine, and posted it to the General 350z forum. The moderator moved it to here and it's where I discovered you having clutch issues also.....

Here's my story and my problem:

https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-drivetrain/307732-2007-350z-clutch-problem.html

I remember someone in February of this year writing about his first experience with the clutch problem. I didn't think it would happen to me.....but it did.

Default My 350z issues 2007 base model.

My dealer has replaced two transmissions and one clutch and tranny still feels like garbage. It still rattles in neutral with the clutch up. The clutch engagement point changes, the pedal is all over the place. I think their is to much heat getting to the clutch line or slave. I have been driving manual transmission for 15 years now and I can't get used to it, its like to impossible to make smooth shifts in this thing. The torque steer is terrible, the hood at less than five thousand miles was full of chips that it must be a defect, its just to much chipping for regular road use, UNACCEPTABLE!! MY dealer left the shift boot hanging and it got all wrapped around my driveshaft, luckily the other dealer I go to now found it when they were changing the oil, but unfortunatley they will not touch my transmission since they do not "touch other dealers warranty work", and neither will any other dealer that I have asked. I am at the end of my rope and will probably try to sell it! I still have not mentioned a few other defects to list: The windshield is waffled with suspended particles. My rearview mirrors are permentantly waiter stained because its cheap glass, their is some other weird noise when ever I start to back up, sounds like a fuel pump cycling or ABS activating. My detailing will not buff it for me cause he thinks theirs not enough claer coat their to work with. The stupid console box keeps opening because my elbow hits it. The dealer also scrapped my rim real good. I got tweny thousend miles on it now and I am not impressed, other than they way it looks in general. I think they tried to make the car more drivable for everyone and dumbed the car down with that stupid dual mass flywheel. I would just get an aftermarket clutch but I am worried the current set up just can't handle heat, its such and odd problem and hard to reproduce which worries me more, if it was consistant I could work around it, but its not. One guy made a good point, that "in stop and go traffic it gets hard to shift", I could not agree more and I think it is because their is no cool air swooping by the headers when I am in stop and go traffic and the clutch system at whatever point gets in the system get hot and does something to make that rattle noise. How could nissan overlook this, the car, in my humble opinion; suffers from heat saturation into the clutch system, lets face it this car runs hot, I attain full operating temp after driving about a hundred feet down the road, I can feel it in the floorboards really bad. I am getting so tired of being outright denied a shift at the right RPM. SO is the clucth line getting to hot and changing pedal feel and effectivness. Is the fluid in the trans getting so thin that when hot, exessive gear lash is making the whole clutch asembly get all sloppy at low RMPs. I just can not figure it out. Other than that I still love the car, its awesome!!
