Default So i go to the dealer...

I go to the dealer and tell em about the 03 Z's having a tranny problem and that it has been noted by nissan that the 03 trannys are weak, he tells me that my car does it when the car is cold because the trans oil is still cold so that's whats causing 3rd to grind, and that he has not heard of Z's having a weak tranny, then I tell him that if the car is in nuetral, even after it has warmed up, if you quickly push it into third (with the clutch all the way in of course) it will grind but if u do it slowly then it won't he told me not to worry bout it and that it is normal, I think he is BSing me what do you guys think? or am i just overacting and my tranny will be ok?

It's a common problem that should be fixed under warranty. If the guy at that dealership gives you too much of a problem, just take it elsewhere and get it done.

I don't understand why a dealer would refuse warranty service. they get paid for it.

Keep insisting it is a warranty problem and you need a new transmission. If they won't help you out, call Nissan North america... something like 1-800-NISSAN-1 (i think)

It should be under the drivetrain warranty...

Amen, call Nissan and inform them the dealership isnt addressing your tranny issues....considering the number of 03's that got new trannies (my friend went through 3 of them under warranty) you shouldnt have too much of a problem

Dealers love it when they are instructed by the payer to replace something instead of using their own initative and risking complaints later of being over zealous in spending Nissan's money.

Service managers are ranked monthly by Nissan on how much money they charge to Nissan.

The typical dealership is always over zealous in spending Nissan's money every month! Many are fired/punished on the insistence of Nissan for spending too much warranty.

Always find out when the fiscal month begins so your warranty claims are early in the period defore they start beating the SMgr over the head by mid month.

Cars sold enter in the equation so big monthly dealers have more leeway........all anyone cares about is the average amount of warranty $ per vehicle sold usually broken down by model.

If 25 Z come in make sure you are not last.

Sometimes warranty is stretched out to fall into the next month if they are way over quota.

tell them to hook the diagnostic up to your computer. It will be able to tell them if your synchros are off in the tranny. Probably will cost you $80 but if they find that they are off and too far gone to readjust you will get a new tranny and avoid the diagnostic test. The above statements are probably true, and person to person, dealer to dealer you will run into a different reason or story on why it shouldn't be covered. Just keep insisting, dont overact to the point where it could be driver error or something they can't replicate. If they can replicate it, then it shouldn't be a problem.

go to a different one....i brought my Z in 2 weeks ago because it made a "little" noise when in nuetral and my warranty was expiring in 2 days.

Ended up getting a brand new tranny and clutch!!!!!!!

no questions asked, no money out of pocket.

I even told them im bringing it in because my warranty is about to be up
