Default Aftermarket Shift Light

Has anybody installed an aftermarket shift light? If so where did you hook the wire that reads the ECU. Is there a wire under the hood that is used by the dealer to read the ECU or to do some kind of diagnostic check on? In my RSX there was a blue wire that was used by the dealer to do something with the engine, and instead of splicing into the wire in the ECU that reads RPM's I could splice into this wire. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks

Mainly because I am use to driving high reving Honda vehicles that redline at 10,000 RPM, so this car is way different. Before I know it I am redlining on this vehicle. If I autocross this car I want to REALLY see when i need to shift, and that little built in shift light does not get my attention.

Besides a Honda motorcycle, F1/Indy car, Touring car, etc., what vehicle redlines at 10,000 that Honda makes? Nothing in stock form that is for sure.

there is a "shift up indicator light" a.k.a. a shift light already in the z, that is if you have a manual tran.
why would you need more than 1?

I suppose one thing you could do would be to dig into the dash and find the wire(s) that connect up the shifting light and bypass it to a light that you place somewhere else. Maybe a light hanging off the top of the dash where it's more "in your field of view"? If I had to relocate the light I would probably put it above the console on the right side. Go with a high intensity LED , at that location, that outta make you REALLY see it

It would be cool if you could put the tach color guage that some ALMS cars have. There is a flat series of lights that range from red-yellow-green that light up as the revs increase. This car definitely does not need it as we have a big fat tach in the middle.

The RSX Type-S that I just got rid of in stock form would rev up to 9,000 with the stock internals if you had the ECU changed to up the fuel cut off. This was all tested and considered safe. The original redline was at 7,800 rpm. Put different pistons, crank arms in and up the compression a bit and you are at 10,000 rpm easily. The stock S2000 engine I think redlines right at 9,000 from the factory. It is easy to make a high reving Honda engine

The new Honda engines run great at high rpm's. I could not tell I was coming up on the redline in my RSX. It pulled hard from 5,000 rpm to redline, and then the fuel shut off would step in. I used a shift light because when racing it is eaier to concentrate on the street when there is a bright 1 inch diameter light that lites up sitting on top of the dash bored saying you better shift soon or your engine is going to cut out.

I thought about that, but it sounds like a pain in the *** compared to the one wire that lead to nothing just hanging out right by the battery on my old car. That was as simple as can be. I need to find out exactly what that wired was used for at the dealer, and see if a tech at Nissan might be able to tell me if we have one.
